Oh! My character works at a cafe, so why not a coffee shop thing? Summer Jobs type-deal, that way everyone is contractually obligated to work near each other and thus allow plot to happen.

That's okay, good thing about coffee shops is that people always walk in at random times so you can jump in whenever if we start while you're gone.

Hey, sure! I don't see why they wouldn't do well as roommates. I think that works. Long as you're cool with it.

I kind of like the feathers idea. Nate is really into martial arts and yoga-ish stuff so the ying and yang thing would fit him. Up to you, though. If you like the crowns better we can go with that.
