Caya walked through the middle of the town, on her way to a meeting with the leaders. She kept her head raised and her eyes alert, daring anyone to come close to her.
Brix leaned against the outside of the building Caya was headed for, smoking a cigarette. He took one last hit as he saw Caya approaching and grinned slyly at her. "Hey, darling. What might you be doing around here this lovely day?"
She snorted. "Oh please. Just stay out of my way, will you?"
Peipe kept her head down and walked across the school yard elsewhere. She could see the shoes of other kids approaching her quickly. No, no, no, no, no… Too late. One of the bigger teens in their class pinned her against the fence. She whimpered pitifully.
"Aww, look," he teased. "She made a cute little noise!" His friends all laughed.
Peipe didn't struggle much, just prepared herself for what she knew was coming next – the beatings.
