"Go to the Raifa Dungeons, and bring back Ayce Lin. He is the only one who can save us. He is the only one who knows how."

These instructions should have been straight forward. (Name) should have been able to get in and get out with Ayce. The problem is…the Fae male has been in Raifa for one hundred years of torture and pain, and, well…he isn't sane anymore. He doesn't have his magic anymore. And the things he's saying…he is making (Name) doubt whether the rebellion is what it appears to be…

The kingdom of Aven has been in upheaval for years. Over one hundred, in fact. The rebellion and the monarchy have waged war across the land for far too long. Destruction is everywhere. Atrocities have been committed by both sides. Ayce was one of the original leaders, before he was captured and sentenced to spend the rest of his days in the Raifa dungeons, being tortured and having his magic stripped from him. This is one of the worst punishments that could ever be inflicted on someone with magic. The leader of the Rebellion, Jalaan Farway, is also Fae and, like Ayce, was one of the original leaders.

This will be a romance, angst, fantasy RP. There will be dark themes and swearing, so Mature RPers only

Looks: Ayce is small, with a thin, fit body. His black hair is long, to his shoulders, due to not being cut, and has streaks of white in it that have developed over the years in the dungeon. He has scars all over his body, marring his skin. He is white, and used to have a tan, though most of the color has been leached from his skin. He has a chiseled jawline, and a long scar going from his collarbone to his hairline, on the left side of his face; the scar is black, for unknown reasons, and is thin. His eyes are a brilliant blue, and often seem as if he is looking into your soul. His clothes are pretty much just rags at this point.
Personality: Pre dungeon, he was a smart, capable person who laughed and joked a lot, but was very serious when necessary. Now, he is half insane, due to the years spent in pain and otherwise. He sometimes laughs at very inopportune moments, and makes comments that don't make much sense to anyone else. Has rather vivid nightmares. If something happens that reminds him of the dungeon, he will sometimes curl up in a ball, shaking, and refuse to move for at least an hour.

Looks: Over the years of vigorous training, Nolan packed on quite a lot of muscle. His skin was tanned from all of his days in the sun. He has sharp facial features. Ge has peircing green eyes and ash brown hair cropped. He's about average height. He has multiple scars on his body from various fights.
Personality: Nolan had been hroomed to follow orders. He does what his superiors tell him and he's neber once qyiestioned it. He's easy going and caring with his friends. They always hang out when they have a spare moment. But he knows when to be serious. He has a conpassionate side not many people have seen, not even his friends know. He doesn't want anyone to know because then they might find him weak.

Yes, yes, and okay

From the outside and from a distance, Raifa didn't look like the stuff of nightmares. It didn't look like a place where insurrectors were sent to be tortured. That is, until you got close and could see the graveyard. Until you got close and saw the thrashing bodies suspended on the walls, blood running down from some of them. It was dark out, and the wind whipped across the flat land around the fortress. Faint screams could occasionally be heard, the begging of men and women who had so completely broken that all they now wanted was death. This was where Nolan had been sent to get Ayce Lin. A place where the guards would not hesitate to shoot him on sight. Ayce himself was deep in the fortress, wrists and ankles chained. He hung limply, head bowed, with blood, both dry and fresh, streaked across his thin body.

Nolan didn't want to be there. It should have been someone else, someone more experienced to do this job. They were expecting him to fail, he knew it. And as he got closer and closer, he started to believe it too. He had a horrible feeling about Raifa. It sent chills down his spine. He wanted to run far, far away. He had to breathe through his mouth as he neared bodies. The smell was horrific. He had a hard time keeping the food in his stomach down. He was warned of the danger this place would hold but it never seems to take effect until you get there. Keeping out of the guard's sight would be the most difficult task, one he had to succeed at. He was stealthy, now he had to put it to use. Upon arriving where Ayce was kept, his mouth opened in horror. Who could be so cruel? He couldn't move just yet. No, there were too many guards. He would have to make a distraction, so he could get in and get Ayce out. Making a distraction proved to be much more difficult than he thought. He didn't have much to work with. But with what gun powder he had on him he was able to make an explosion just a couple halls away from where his target was stashed. Once the guards were distracted, he swooped in. He pulled out his handy dandy lock picking tools and started working unlocking the chains.

The guards shouted, heading towards the explosion to investigate. Ayce flinched when Nolan entered the cell, blue eyes opening slightly. "Please. Please not again." He whispered, voice cracking as his body started to shake and tremble with fear. He coughed, blood dribbling out of his mouth. The cell was rather small, and the stones were spattered with blood and other, less easily identifiable liquids. There were no windows, nothing that could let in even an ounce of natural light. With the way Ayce was chained, there was no way he could even lay down, or even sit properly, stuck in an uncomfortable position that wasn't quite standing, nor yet was it sitting.

From elsewhere in the fortress, the screams of those broken or dying could still be heard; the torturers did not stop for a measly thing like an explosion. Nolan was lucky that it wasn't Ayce's turn now, or the whole rescue would have been nearly impossible to complete.

(Ah shoot, i should have mentioned this earlier: code words for Nolan to give Ayce are "sy astran fûr schay, torín asfal." Which translates to "without stars to light it, the night is dark". The rebellion often compares themselves to stars in the night sky, and this is one of their oldest codes, that Ayce would know)

Nolan looked at him. The damage that had been done was extensive. He didn't know how anyone could do such a thing. Who could torture someone like thins, endlessly? He pulled out his tools and grabbed one of the chains holding his wrists. He started to work on unlocking it. "Sy astran fûr schay, torín asfal." Noaln whispered, hoping that Ayce would understand what that meant, that he was there to get him out of that hellhole. Once one chain was off he moved to the other chain on his wrist. It took longer than it should have to be able to get all of the chains off of him. "Follow me, please."

Ayce shivered slightly at the words, falling onto the floor when the chains were gone. He looked up at Nolan with broken eyes. "I can't…walk…" He whispered, ragged hair hanging into his face, wisps of it sticking to the blood. He looked nothing like the man Nolan would have heard stories about. In the stories, Ayce Lin was a capable, strong person, who always knew what he was doing and what t do. Powerful, with a magic that could level cities. This crumpled shell of a man was not like those stories. There was only fear and pain in his eyes, and no shreds of magic were even hinted at in his demeanor.

Nolan sighed. He carefully pulled the broken man into his arms. It would prove to be more difficult to get them out if he had to carry Ayce. "just hold on and try not to make any nouse okay?" He said. He started back to wat he had come. He watched out for guards, doing his best to avoid them and raising any alarm.

Ayce nodded, and held on tightly to Nolan, closing his eyes. The guards had cleared up the explosion, and were now combing the fortress, looking for intruders. They hadn't yet reached the hallway that Nolan and Ayce were in, but they would soon. Ayce bit his lip, a soft sound escaping him as one of the still healing wounds split open. His white streaked hair hung in his face as he held onto Nolan.

Nolan tightened his grip on Ayce. "Shh, I've got you." He whispered, hoping that it would held ease him. He looked around quickly, making sure there were no guards there. He picked up the pace, almost at a jog. He didnt want to hurt Ayce anymore than he had been but if they didn't get out it would be so much worse.

Ayce shuddered slightly, but didn't make a sound, clinging to Nolan. There was still a surprising amount of strength in him, despite how thin and weak he was. Though that strength seemed only to be physically; his eyes were simply empty. The guards came to the end of the hallway they were in, and started their way down it, checking each cell as they went. They hadn't yet spotted Nolan and Ayce, as there was a curve to the hallway, but once they came around that curve, they would.

(hey, not meaning to be rude or anything, just checking in to make sure you haven't forgotten about this or anything :) )

Nolan looked down to check on Ayce. He tried to give him a small, reassuring squeeze. He wasn't going to let anything happen to the broken fae in his arms. He couldn't. And not just bevause Ayce was his mission. So down the halls he ran, avoiding the guards that were looking for them. He ran until the sunlight once again reached his face. And even then he still ran. They wouldn't be safe until that hell hole disappeared out of sight.

There were shouts of surprise and anger as they discovered that Ayce was gone. Ayce kept his eyes closed, still clinging to Nolan desperately. At the squeeze he flinched slightly, unused to physical contact that wasn't meant to cause pain. When they eventually stopped, his wounds would need to be addressed before they could start festering and rotting, becoming infected and nasty. His clothes were in rags, too, though that wasn't quite as much of a priority.

Night fell and Nolan still walked well into the night. When he no longer felt like they were in an immediate danger, he started to look for shelter. He found an abonded cottage and chose it. They would have to find a village soon, so he could buy a horse or two. That way they could get to his rebel base sooner. Once in the cottage, he sat Ayce down in the dusty bed. He went to the foreplace and started a fire. Then he returned to his side. "Will you let me help you?" He asked in a soft voice

Ayce's eyes flicked up to him. He was quiet for a long moment. "Okay." He finally whispered, arms hugged around his knees. He shifted, sitting more normally so that Nolan could access the wounds better. There were almost too many to count, scattered all over his body. Some were fresh, still weeping blood, others were in the process of healing. These wounds were layered over older scars. Some were white with age, while others were the pink of newer ones. There wasn't a spot on his too thin body that didn't have either a scar or a wound.

Nolan sighed in relief. He rummaged through his bag and pulled out an extra shirt. He drenched it alcohol. He turned to Ayce and lifted his poor excuse for clothes so he could have more access to his wounds. He tried to be as gentle as possible as he cleaned the wounds. Ayce had been through enough, that was clear, Nolan didn't want to add to the trauma. Once he had finished, he ripped his shirts into strips and made makeshift bandages. He was able to cover the more major ones but there were a few minor wounds he wasn't able to bandage. "This will do until we get back to the base. They'll be able to patch you right up." He said, trying to give Ayce some hope. "Are you hungry? I have some jerky if you want to nibble on it. I have some water left too if you're thirsty."

Ayce flinched sometimes as he cleaned the wounds and bandaged them, but didn't make a sound. At the mention of the base, his eyes narrowed slightly. "Who is in charge?" He asked softly. "And…water. Please." His voice was quiet, and he glanced over at Nolan for a second, then down at the floor, biting his lower lip. I can't I cant I can't i can't I can't go back…why do they want me back now after all this time? He thought, his mind jumbled and blurry with the lingering fear and pain. He swallowed slightly, shifting a little.

Nolan brought his canteen to Ayce's lips, helping him sip the water. "Jalaan Farway. I'm not sure if you remember him or not. It's been a long time." He cleared his throat. He let Ayce sip from the canteen one last time before putting it away. They had to conserve the water until he could find a river to refill. Nolan noticed Ayce didn't seem all there. He wanted to comfort him but didn't know what to do, so he just started talking. "The war hasn't destroyed everything. My best friend grows a garden at the base. It's small, but beautiful. I think you'd like it."

Ayce's throat closed up at Jalaan's name, but he forced a nod. At the story about the garden, his lips twitched slightly in an expression that could almost be called a smile, but it soon vanished. He curled his knees up to his chest again, as if he were trying to make himself appear as small as possible. "Should have been over by now." He whispered mostly to himself. He rested his chin on his knees, his hair hanging in front of his face like a curtain. The white streaks were discolored with blood and grime, but then again, most of his body was.

"Yes it should have. But both sodes are too stubborn to yeild." Nolan sighed. He looked at Ayce, taking him in. "We'll look for a river or sometging tomorrow so you can bathe. Then we'll go to the nearest town and get some horses and restock in supplies. Do you think you'll be up for traveling tomorrow?" He asked in concern
