Jasper was about to go to the shelves and try to get some rest when she looked over and heard someone, "i think someones outside." she spoke towards gus.
"I'm sure you'll get to rememberin' us too, by-and-by," Gus told Darius cheerfully. "You might get set back a few times, but if you could learn to hammer a nail in straight, then who says you won't get th' hang of this jus' the same?"
Then Jasper spoke up. When he heard her, Gus immediately turned around. "You heard somebody?" His hopes lifted. Maybe Jez was finally back. Still, he should be cautious just in case.
"Don't call out to 'em," he warned Jasper and Darius, grabbing his rifle. "We sneak to th' front and peek out at 'em, nice 'n quiet. Then we decide what t' do." He followed his own advice, keeping the light low as he crept over to the barricade and carefully parted the curtains.
Elodie smiled up at the stranger on the roof and waved.
"Im Elodie, im looking for my friend Jesse! can you help me?" she asked the person, quietly.
Elodie shook June's hand, marvelled at her niceness.
"Nice name." She stated softly "my grandma's name was June too, her parents named their kids after the month they were born in, my great uncle's name was August." She added quietly, letting her hands drop to her sides awkwardly.
Gus saw a slim girl standing outside in the gloom, apparently talking to June. As he watched, June left the roof and came down to shake hands with the stranger.
"Wait here," he told Jasper and Darius, then ducked down and slipped through the trap door they'd just built, bringing his rifle with him. He approached the two girls, glancing around for any other signs of life but seeing none. "Evenin'," he called. "Who's this, June? You know 'er?"
Elodie turned to Gus, who she immediately gre attached to emotionally, she liked the way he looked (platonically) and was astonished to see that he gave a leader vibe.
She stuck her hand out for the strange man to shake, a grin plastered on her face. "Im Elodie, I live in the apartment building over there—" she paused to point to her apartment building, which was small and barely visible. "And i'm looking for my friend Jesse. As well as exploring, its nice to meet you all, i'm glad you haven't shot me yet." She said cheerily.
Gus couldn't help returning the grin as the new girl introduced herself. "Well now," he said, shaking her hand, "Nice t'meet you. Don' worry, we only shoot at screamers and cultists. I can't recall meetin' anybody named Jesse 'round here, sorry. But you can c'mon inside if you want, it ain't very safe out here after dark. I'm Gus, by the way," he added.

Jasper watched as Gus made his way outside, she moved to peek her head out of the small trapdoor they made and watched as the three of them talked, narrowing her eyes at Elodie. she looked nice, but she was gonna be wary about trusting her, as to make sure she didn't get any ideas to hurt any of them, once she proved herself jasper would relax, but then and only then.
Elodie smiled at them.
"I have no idea who Jez is but I haven't seen them." She said to June, turning back to Gus "I would very much like to come inside with you strangers, as long as i'm not left out here to die alone." She said cheerily.
"Be our guest! There's supper too if y'want it." Gus made a welcoming gesture and showed Elodie the way in. Spotting Jasper watching uncertainly from inside, he gave her a reassuring look.
"She seems nice," he whispered to her as he held the trap door for Elodie. "She says she's lookin' fer somebody and asked to stay the night. We got plenty of food and space so I figured we might as well be hospitable."
Elodie looked around at them all, smiling at each of them individually first Gus, June and lastly Jasper, widening her smile at the wary looking girl she smiled at last.
"I have a upper floor apartment–" she started, while looking around the makeshift home. "Nice handy work by the way." She said in awe and admiration. "I have a top floor apartment, the screamers don't like to climb stairs, so it's no bother, its safer there I think, you guys could stay there with me— and Jesse that is, if we ever find her— she's pretty how do I say this—rude, but I don't think she'll be a problem." She added, moving her hands as she talked,

Jasper stared down Elodie, hard stare. "They will climb stairs if they know your up there, so you need to make sure that they don't know your up there or they will be relentless in getting to you." She spoke in a way that was easy to hear her speak, and like dead straight speech. She then moved to do the I'm watching you symbol while staying near Gus. "I know because I almost died from a screamer climbing stairs to get to me on a roof."
Elodie gave a polite, yet sad smile.
"That sucks, im sorry." She said, casting her eyes to the ground.
"I've never had a problem in my apartment though, I guess they just dont know im there." She added quietly.
She turned to the stranger and smiled, not offering her hand this time. "Im Elodie, nice to meet you." She said quietly.
Gus patted Darius's shoulder. "Don't worry, we still got our nametags, see? We'll make you one too, Elodie. Darius here has somethin' wrong with his memory but he's a real nice, hard-workin' guy." To Darius, he added, "Elodie's stayin' th' night, okay? She's looking fer a pal named Jesse."
Back to Elodie. "That's mighty nice of you t' offer your house like that," he said politely. "Right now we've got a missin' friend too, and he actually wanted t' keep goin' north pretty soon, not settle here. But when he gets back we'll talk it out and see what's next. Heck, maybe tomorrow we should all go out lookin' for both your friend and mine."
June grabbed a name tag, and wrote Elodie's name on it, "here, I decided to keep these on me just in case." she smiled before writing one with Darius' name on it and sticking it to his hoodie. "there ya go Dare." she smiled.
Darius nodded looking at Gus' name tag, "ok … Gus…" he smiled softly.
Elodie smiled at June and muttered a thank you quietly.
She pinned the name tag to her chest.
"I think Jesse went out to hunt your friend." She said warily, looking around. "You see we met some guy in an abandoned building earlier— and I tried to get between them, because I felt he was no harm and she like." She pointed to her jeans, where there was a giant hole in the left knee, and blood stained to her pants "she shot me so—" she finished.
Gus's smile vanished as Elodie spoke and he noticed her injury for the first time. "Hold on. She shot you? I though you were pals." A throb of worry started up in his chest. He stepped forward. "This guy you met–was he kinda tall, dark skinned, serious-lookin'? Had a couple piercings?"
Elodie nodded briskly, rubbing her arm with her hand awkwardly.
"Jesse is my friend, she's just a bit intense." She said quietly, not looking at anything but the ground.
Gus took off his hat and scrubbed a hand through his hair anxiously. 'Intense' sounded like an understatement. He knew of people back home who were so casual with their guns that they might accidentally shoot a non-enemy, but no one who'd do it on purpose. "We got first-aid stuff in th' back if you need it," he told Elodie distractedly, his thoughts racing. "What happened after she shot you? Did she go fer the guy too?"

"Gus and our other f-friend..saved me… that's why I'm here with them.." she spoke after Elodies response, before moving to go behind Gus, just kinda seeking shelter in him from her thoughts as the two of them talked back and forth. she gripped the behind of Gus's shirt, if that girl had done something to Jez….she didn't know what she would do.
