Yellow Plague - Worldwide Zombie Apocalypse (Open; 8/12)

The Collapse of Humanity:

January 15th - The unknown disease makes an appearance in a small African village.
February 13th - The unknown disease is discovered in a young man in Edinburgh, Scotland. At first he is thought to be mentally deranged. But then his appearance changes; he looks as if he were rotting. Then he starts eating people.
February 18th - The disease is officially reported on the news. "115 cases have been reported in Germany alone." A small panic ensues.
March 28th - The borders to 18 countries close.
March 30th - The disease spreads to Asia. The numbers of the infected explode when it reaches China.
April 19th - There are no open country borders. It doesn't change anything. The numbers of the infected rise at a lightning pace.
May 4th - Worldwide panic. No country is untouched.
May 25th - Anarchy. Civilization collapses.
June 16th - There are more dead than alive. There are more infected than dead.
June 19th - Is anyone living still out there?

If You Would Like to Help Humanity…..
-Report signs of the plague immediately; suspected infected persons/animals. The authorities will take care of it.
-Do not hesitate to destroy an advanced Infected person. They kill without a thought.
-If you have been exposed to the plague by an open wound, clean out the wound with alcohol or, if that is not available, clean water, and take the necessary preventive medicines. If you show signs of the plague, report yourself to the proper authorities. We will make you as comfortable as possible.

Stages of the Plague:
-. Incubation period: 3-5 days
-. Stage 1: Mental confusion, dizziness, sleeplessness, unsteadiness, more energy than usual
-. Stage 2: Bloody mucus, acute insomnia, hallucinations, vomiting, larger appetite than usual
-. Stage 3: Slight weight loss, a yellowing of the whites of the eyes, a mistrust of everyone
-. Stage 4: A craving for human flesh appears, paranoia, yellowing of the skin
-. Stage 5: Insatiable appetite for human flesh, animalistic, yellow foam at mouth, seemingly inexhaustible energy

Story Guidelines:
-It is the 21st century.
-Virus is contracted only by blood-to-blood/fluid-to-fluid contact (If someone gets zombie juices in their wound, they're on their way to joining the living dead club. Their slim chance is to sanitize the wound and pray for the best.).
-A zombie can only be permanently stopped if shot in the head or beheaded.
-Civilization has entirely collapsed.
-Communication via any other way besides face to face is non-existent (No cellphones, email, radio, etc.). Especially because most everyone and every un-infected group thinks they're the last ones.
-Almost all mammals can also be infected (Ex. primates, dogs, cats, horses, pigs, etc.)

Appearance: Black hair in need of a trim. Ratty Vans sk8 High Leather shoes. A dark gray waxed cotton jacket. Worn dark gray jeans. Maroon t-shirt. Has heterochromia; in his case his right eye is a light blue, his left is a dark brown. Has dark circles under his eyes and is pale. Pale scars (from crawling through shattered glass) on his hands and knees.
Personality: Before the Plague he was pretty open and outgoing. After the Plague he is distrusting and hardly speaks.
Occupation before the Plague: Student (High School)
Family: As far as he knows, his parents and his two little sisters (ages 13 and 8) are either infected or dead. He doesn't know where they are.
Weapon(s): Baseball bat, handgun
Other: He wears a necklace, a small gold-colored circular pendant on a silver chain, that was his Mom's. It has a small picture of his two sisters in it.

Cash looks long at the city from the uppermost level of the parking garage, at the cars seemingly frozen in time on the roads between buildings, at the broken windows; you can't miss the carnage. It isn't everywhere, but it is widespread. You can't go half a mile without seeing another body, dead or no. If they're dead, RIP, but if they're alive, they're not ever in their right mind anymore.
He pulls out a water bottle from his backpack and twists the cap off. The water is warm, but he relishes that one sip. He's only got a few bottles left, but he hasn't seen a sign of any more so he has to ration it out.
He puts the bottle back in his pack and grips his bat, ever close to him. He realizes he's hardly set the thing down these last few months. What with the running, killing, and hiding, he hasn't had the chance.

Cash's ears catch the faint sounds of some Infected. They aren't nearby, probably a few blocks away. He swallows painfully when he realizes that if they're this loud now, they've probably gotten into a feeding frenzy. He wonders if their meal is…was, an un-Infected or not. Too late now.
He grips his bat in readiness, but he heads in the opposite direction as the noise. He has no chance against a feeding hoard. He'd rather pick them off a few at a time.

Cash sticks to the sidewalk as if the world was still "normal." He tries to imagine the sound of car horns, of people jabbering into their phones, of dogs barking….instead his mind fails him and there is just silence, silence and the faint sound of his own feet against the pavement.
'Pay attention, Cash.' he mentally tells himself. 'You want to live, don't you?' He purses his lips, stepping over a carcass well on its way to becoming compost. 'Don't you?'
