Hi lovely writers,

I have been making some tutorials for Notebook.ai and would love to know what sort of tutorials would be helpful for the community on here. If you have a suggestion, please share!

EDIT: To clarify, I’ve been making tutorials more along the lines of using Notebook.ai (how to create a custom category, how to delete a character) than the actual story writing or worldbuilding aspect.

EDIT: I’ll put a list here of topics I’ve already covered and intend to cover so replies don’t get lost in future posts.

How to write engaging fight scenes

Oof, that would be a tricky one! While I’ve written a few scenes involving fighting, they are definitely not my forte!

To clarify, I’ve been making tutorials more along the lines of using Notebook.ai (how to create a custom category, how to delete a character) than the actual story writing or worldbuilding aspect.

@ninja_violinist

I'm not sure if this is within your scope when it comes to tutorials, but it'd be really convenient to have a list of all the formatting code things (like the asterisks for italics, or < b> for bold, or the three dashes for a line break).
80% of my struggle is hunting for posts to quote so I can then figure out how people did a certain formatting thing and it'd be cool to have it all in one spot, I guess.

@MacaroniElephant

I agree with @ninja_violinist, I have to do that all the time too. Even finding out how to add images to forum posts was a bit of a scavenger hunt.

Thanks, @andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)!

@ninja_violinist and @MacaroniElephant - that's a good idea!

@ninja_violinist and @MacaroniElephant - I have added a formatting-posts guide to the tutorial thread I linked in my first post, and I will eventually put it together as a Google doc too. If there are any formatting elements you think I’ve missed, let me know and I’ll make sure they go in.

@MacaroniElephant

Ah, wow, that's super helpful! Thanks for making all of these, I'm sure lots of people will be so grateful.

How to critique something in the best possible way

@NOpe, that’s a great idea! It might end up being more of a list of tips than a tutorial, but I’d love to do something like that.

If you do other lists of tips, I think it might be a good idea to do one on "how to roleplay." I don't mean etiquette and stuff. I mean showing how to RP well. Like what makes a thorough response, a good character (for example, not being that person who puts down 3 very generic personality traits), and maybe how to start one (like making sure you have a plot/structure so it doesn't fall apart). Just a suggestion, if you could make it work.

@SaltyLasagna

I think tips on roleplaying etiquette would be more important. There are a lot of beginner RPrs out there who don't really know the basics, and they need to. All of the "professional" stuff should come second, in my opinion.

Yeah, but a lot of that is under RP rules, so I figured it was (mostly) covered. Although it wouldn’t hurt to have some of that on a tutorial/tip list too.

@SaltyLasagna

I mean somebody should talk about the unspoken rules. Like always use good grammar, don't use one liners, develop characters as much as possible, don't ever control other people's characters, don't discriminate against anyone in any way (I had a problem with this and I'm still bitter about it lol), take all of the nasty to the inbox, etc.

True, true. (Especially for one-liners and character development because those are big rp pet peeves of mine that I see a lot.)

@SaltyLasagna

Yeah. I was doing a one on one once and the person was like "I'm not gonna fill out the template, I never do lol and I don't really have him developed" and I was just like ???????

Hello! I just wanted to say that I have started a topic on this under "Wildcard Roleplaying". Feel free to check it out!

Hello, @Riorlyne , I was just wondering…

Do you mind if I make some of these suggestions (not the ones that you've already made) into a post thing? I would probably make the suggestion, "How to Roleplay" into a topic thing. May I?
