So my main character, was created in a lab as the first artificial human. He was created to be an easily made, easily disposable weapon for wars. Problem is, there's no technology that can do this. So, I was hoping maybe people had some suggestions on how I could BS my way through this.

@Rover3672

Maybe you could have it where they are grown in some kind of lab by using man-made sperm and egg from whatever kind of ingredients make sense? Hormones and certain balances of chemicals could have been pumped into the fetus to maybe even brainwash them? I'm not sure how your story works but I'm up to discuss if you want to elaborate

So, he was supposed to be made based off of heavily altered DNA. Maybe Marcus (the guy who made him) took an egg and sperm and just highly altered the DNA in them until he got the results he wanted? Would that work?

@Rover3672

I think that would work, maybe see if there is any research on creating artificial life (not necessarily people) and write to see if anything pops out and you can take inspiration from

Ok, I'll try that! Thank you for your help!

@Rover3672

No problem, it is a tricky subject to handle. If you have more questions I'll attempt to answer it!

artificial as in totally artificial, as in no organic material whatsoever?

No, he's organic. He's not a robot or anything.

fun fact: this is actually kind of a thing
people are genetically engineering sperm- and egg-cells.
it's fucked up

Ok, so I'm thinking now maybe I make it sci-fi and just have him have taken some DNA and somehow made a person out of it.

@SpookyJim

actually-
skim through the summary of James Patterson's "Maximum Ride" series.

@SpookyJim

that kind of explains things.

No, I mean, can the DNA be from normally made people or is it totally lab-made?

I'm thinking about the creator taking his own DNA and altering it to the point where they're nothing alike.

So basically extreme gene editing? What attributes do you want the character in question to have that makes him so disposable?

group
@Fangirl616 group

Its not the attributes that make him disposable, its that he was artificially made and they can just make more. And yeah, basically just extreme gene editing.

We can do this today, actually. Sure, it's just the small things, but here's a link that will hopefully give you some ideas: https://www.yourgenome.org/facts/what-is-genome-editing

Thank you! I'll take a look at this!

I have something similar - one of my characters was a fetus that was synthesized in an artificial womb, and genetic modification was used to make her photosynthetic and bioluminescent.

Oh wow! That sounds super cool.
