How would you make interdimensional travel logical?

I'm making a story where there would be interdimensional travel but I'm not sure how I would make it work. Does anyone have any ideas?

So there's this book series called 'the Thirteenth Reality' by James Dashner, it's all about interdimensional travel. I'd recommend that

Is it like between the physical dimensions? (3rd 4th and so on) or is it between separate realities (stranger things kinda thing)

it's more like stranger things, but there are several parallel universes, each one created by significant decisions made in human history.

Okay, I'd say maybe the dimensions are all their separate realities, until one day they all overlap at the same point for a period of time. This could happen every so often, or maybe your stories beginning is the first time. The form of travel would most likely be either:

Stabilized portals where science has devolped a way to keep the multiverse in place, that are contsantly open for travel

Randomly opening and reoccuring portals that make no sense whatsoever.
