History
Shard appeared one day from "The Depth". A vast expanse of black liquid that mortals are not able to traverse. No one knows how deep it goes. When the shard appeared they where hollow shells that rose to the top of the Depth. Occasional when someone dies naturally or perishes at the hands of Physis, the liquid that makes up the Depth. Their soul may find itself inside a shard body, granting the hollow frame consciousness. Unlike most undead they remember their previous lives fairly well. Even though they aren't persecuted like Embered they still are shunned by the living.
They arise from the Depth and thus, as being of physis, naturally are immune to it and can harness its effects for their own means. In addition because a Shard body has no internal organs or any parts for that matter, they are extremely frail and light. If their outer shell is cracked they may repair it over time; however, whenever they are cracked open they leak physis, damaging their environment and weakening themselves greatly.
