History
December 24
Smith was born and raised in Hollywood, Florida with two parents and an older brother named Gerald. Gerald was an athletic ace, always achieving success in sports. Smith, on the other hand, was more average in comparison and didn't even want to compete in sports, only doing so because his parents forced him. Many kids in his grade knew who his brother was and made fun of him for not being as skilled, his parents often berated him for being a disappointment, and coaches would constantly express frustration over his lack of talent. All of this mockery and derision would reach its boiling point and at age 8, Smith ran away from home. He decided to join a crime syndicate that he would often observe whenever his dad drove him to and from school. They accepted him once they saw that his Factor not only gave him control over the dead, but also the ability to gain the knowledge and intelligence of any dead person he was aware of. His Factor made him well-respected and valued in the crime syndicate, fueling his love for this new home. He would even use his Factor to summon old military generals so he could train and learn to fight. Stealing and killing were perfectly fine as long as it could benefit his new family. This hard work didn't go unnoticed by the boss, who would appoint him as second-in-command. At one point, he would be in charge of a numbers game where people would buy special lottery tickets made by his organization. These tickets were offering rewards three times that of legal gambling hotspots at three times the price, but they were impossible to win. The main reason for this was that the numbers for the combination would never start with 0, making the game rigged from the start. These tickets were sold at 20% the rate of normal lotto tickets in cities that the Maestri Crime Family generally ignored, making lots of people want to buy them. Smith would also have people in his crime syndicate talk about how they've managed to win the lottery, reinforcing the idea in the customer base that these tickets were legit. Eventually, the Maestri crime family caught wind of these tickets and started participating themselves. One capo named Freddy Caito noticed that all the people who were saying that they were winning were all members of the crime syndicate Smith was part of, leading him to conclude that the game was rigged from the start. Freddy would attack Smith, demanding that he'll keep this a secret as long as he was given 55% of all earnings, claiming he'd much prefer to only spill blood when necessary. Smith tried to kill him, only to be defeated badly. Smith would ultimately comply with his demands. After a year of this, he asked his boss if they could try to kill him, only to be rejected. Since Freddy was a member of the biggest crime family of South Florida, attacking them would only result in unnecessary casualties. Smith told him about The Tuesday Academy, an organization that trains mercenaries, and said they could just hire one so that no one would suspect them. His boss explained that even if that were possible, Maestri wouldn't take this lying down and that he would move Heaven and Earth to torture the person responsible and make them weep for death on their knees. This reason only served to diminish any respect Smith had for his boss. Unwilling to accept this, he hired Martin Baines, a high-level mercenary, to kill Caito in a manner that made it look nonspecific. After two months, Smith would poison his boss and become the leader of his crime syndicate.
Notes
Crystal was born in Delmas, Ouest, Haiti as the youngest of 8 siblings. Her dad died when she was only 5, forcing her to mature at a faster rate than expected. She took part in helping make sure all her siblings behave and stop bothering their mother as she worked as a fried chicken vendor. Her mom was in constant business due to many people seeing her operations as a sort of refuge from all the criminal violence. Unfortunately, due to the unruly nature of children, this constant song and dance of keeping her siblings in line started to chip away at Crystal. When she was 9, she got so enraged at one point that she used her Factor to summon the corpse of their dad screaming, scaring all of them. After that incident, Crystal was able to better control her siblings. She felt bad about what she did and would instead use her power to allow her siblings to talk with dad, learning about his life. Crystal, herself, would profusely apologize for desecrating the memory of their dad, but her siblings forgave her and started to help out mom in her business, the youngest of them even nicknaming Crystal "Fridge" due to her role in placing new chicken in the fridge. The second youngest joked saying that she should be a police officer for how scary she was. Although, she saw it funny at first, Crystal would reflect on the idea. After 15 years, she would become a police officer to quell the rampant crime plaguing her community. Her powers of necromancy proved useful in taking violent offenders down for a while, but eventually, they'd break out. Despite this constant back and forth, Crystal still believed she was making a difference for 6 years, all until she saw something she shouldn't have: The chief of police having a casual dinner with the notorious gang leader whose forces she kept putting away. By eavesdropping on their conversation, she learned that all the criminals she would put away would just get released over and over again just as long as they stuck to a more street level of crime. After fleeing the scene, Crystal couldn't help but reflect on what she learned. The system she had been working for was benefitting by allowing the very crime they were supposed to be neutralizing. Not only was she much less vocal than normal, but her expression grew more deadpan. When her higher-up noticed this change, he gave her a speech about the importance of their job to cheer her up. Instead, all it did was reduce her barely lifeless face into a cold expression of ice. She called him pathetic and walked away. Slowly, but surely, she would start building a gang of her own by telling people the truth about what she had learned, about how the police and gangs were in bed with each other. Over 500 civilians joined her cause, becoming a large group of rebels. She would train these rebels how to fight and shoot by using her powers to summon dead drill sergeants to instruct them all. They would focus specifically on murdering police officers and gang members as if they were part of the same faction. When her family learned about this, they pleaded with Crystal to stop and repent, only for her to call them worthless and have them riddled with bullets. Five years after learning about the truth, Crystal's forces would start to get cut down by a figure known as "The Iron Leopard." It got to the point where 20% of her gang had been exterminated by him. This forced Crystal to take her remaining members all to Miami, Florida.
