Brendan grew up in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. Brendan would get bullied by many kids due to a bump he had on his head as well as his short stature. However, rather than let them insult him, Brendan would beat them up using his powers. The only person who could stop him was his brother, Hiram. When Brendan was 10, his brother went to jail for simple battery for 6 months. Without his older brother around, his unruliness started to return, claiming that his brother was set up. When his brother was released, he asked who falsely accused him. Hiram told him that he did commit battery but for a reason. It was against because he attacked the son of a wealthy businessman who constantly derided his little brother. Due to his reason for incarceration, Hiram couldn't find work. As a result, his parents mortgaged their home so that he could live in Georgia at his relatives' farm. This led him to believe that the only use the law had was to be a tool for the rich and powerful. Four years later, he was sent to live with his older sister, Vanessa, in Hialeah, Florida due to his growing unruliness. A month later, he dropped out of school and started to hang out with a motorcycle gang for 7 years and was even given the nickname "Crocodile". One day, he was spraying a storefront when he was spotted by Cain Thomas. Cain told him that this was his territory, but Brendan ignored him. Cain grabbed his shoulder and turned him around but was surprised to see Brendan transform into a swamp monster. Brendan and Cain had a big fight that Cain managed to win. However, Cain was greatly impressed with Brendan's skills and asked him to join his organization as his underboss. Brendan would join, but only under the condition that his biker gang would receive protection. Cain agreed and took Brendan under his wing.
