Overview
Kaze Hawkinson
Mutations Expert
31
Male
He/him
Rhymes with "daze"
Physical Description
5'10"
180 lbs
Simple, warm colors, collared shirts, vests
Kaze has a face some have called "punchable," but his nerdy appearance can also be quick to disarm in the right crowd. He is pale-skinned and has a short crop of red hair, strong cheekbones, and a large nose. Narrow, half-frame glasses rest on his face, frequently adjusted when he's nervous. His right arm is artificial from the bicep down and can be removed painlessly, once disconnected from the interface implanted in his stump.
Personality
Healthy clutter, fractals
Riding in cars, rainy weather
Permanent mutations, losing control over himself
Polymer clay, needle felting, wine tasting
Bisexual
Kaze considers himself a high-functioning introvert, able to make friends easily with those who share his passions even if socialization tires him. He can be a doormat, though, and often worries about talking over others or asking too much. Despite being a scientist at heart, he has a strong appreciation for the beauty of nature and finds joy in even the smallest things.
Abilities
Terrified of mutation, Kaze tries to only use his Visimancy when necessary, but he still loves the idea of it and often has to hold himself back from acting on clever but frivolous ideas.
Because Kaze's right arm is prosthetic, touching it doesn't count as being in physical contact with him for the purposes of Sensecraft. Changes to his senses still carry to his arm since it interfaces directly with his nervous system, but Crafters who cannot work at a distance must contact him somewhere else.
Relationships
Life
Researcher, specializing in Sensecraft mutations (and remote biology teacher for an Airedale university on the side)
Kaze grew up in Airedale, where his parents practiced Gustamancy on-and-off as a means to enhance the family's occasional vacations. While Kaze never shared their interest in food, he did at least learn to appreciate the science of taste, which eventually led him to the career he now follows today. Someday, he hopes to quit his job as a teacher and lean full-time on grants for his research.
When he was young, Kaze was in a gruesome car accident caused by a Visiborn mutant leaping into the road. While the resulting pile-up resulted in numerous casualties, Kaze didn't know any of them. He did, however, sustain plenty of trauma around mutants and cars, as well as a grievous injury in his right arm that wound up requiring it to be amputated. The prosthetic is hardly noticeable and just as functional as a real arm thanks to modern technology, but maintenance can occasionally get expensive. A pipe dream of his is using his mutation research to somehow grow it back.
He moved to Vedere recently in order to learn Visimancy, which is invaluable for his work as it lets him spot even the tiniest changes caused by exposure to Sensecraft. The city's booming medical industry also means more opportunities for research projects, at least in theory.
