Li Fen is a quiet person. She gets angry very easily and tends to overreact to this anger by burning down everything in the area. She has a very high hatred of humans and other dragons, and is very angry upon the sight of either one. She also hates being called beautiful and reacts violently towards it.

Li Fen was born in Long Cheng. Li Fen was born to a charred eggshell, which was a bad omen. That, along with her belligerent nature, led to her being shunned. For most of her life, her only friend was her older brother, Li Shen. She eventually met two other Imperial Dragons who shared similar experiences, Chun Nian and Hai Xiu and they all became friends. Fed up with other Imperials, Hai Xiu leads Li Fen and Chun Nian to the surface world to live their own lives. Upon entering the surface, they were attacked by vengeful Gumiho and were seperated. Heavily injured, Li Fen holes up in a cave, where a wandering prince named Mei Jian came across her. Angry. she engages him and combat and loses. Mei Jian then issues a contract that forces Li Fen to serve Mei Jian and any of his descendants until either Li Fen dies or his bloodline ends, which Li Fen reluctantly agrees to. For 10 years, Mei Jian uses Li Fen as how he sees fit and eventually, he uses Li Fen to attempt a takeover of Mei from his eldest sister, Mei Koto. The takeover ends in a failure and Mei Koto seals Li Fen into a miniature terracotta dragon and hides it in an underground tomb.
