She believes she is a coward and somewhat useless, since she has no magic and can't always protect Luna. If Luna is the "pure" sister, Selene views herself as the "dirty" or "bad" sister, especially since Selene resembles their mother so much.
She does think boys are cute, but has too much on her mind right now to consider romantic or sexual relationships.
She will later view herself as a giver of good advice; a wise and mysterious companion.

This poor girl has been so abused. Her parents were unhappily married, although her grandparents were loving and kind. Selene's mother plotted against her husband and in-laws in an effort to steal their authority and gain control. Selene's mother eventually had all of Selene's father's family killed. Now Selene is a servant in her own home while her mother claims more and more power over the land.

When she thinks her mom will win and destroy Luna.
Her fear that Luna will no longer be able to hear her.
When Terran displays a bond with Luna and Selene feels like she is obsolete.

When the battle is finally won and her mom is destroyed for good.
