History

Background

Lawrence O’Sullivan was born in McCreary Caster Community, Ireland, to parents Oscar and Yvonne O’Sullivan. He was the youngest of six children and part of a very toxic and argumentative family.

Lawrence grew up angry and violent, constantly causing problems and getting into fights, often with his own father or brothers. He occasionally would escape by playing guitar on the streets, not returning until the very early morning.

At the age of sixteen, Lawrence was caught vandalizing a public building and was taken in for evaluation. He narrowly escaped being implanted but was promised no second warning. This was the moment when he decided to get away, tired of his hometown, his drunken and berserk family, and his life up to that moment.

Initially, his options for communities were very slim. However, after registering himself as a skilled illusionist, an opportunity opened up. He was offered housing in a lowly, Canadian community, Bons-Anges Caster Community, provided he study illusionism there. He eagerly agreed and took off without much of a warning to his family.

Lawrence lived in a shelter in the small, Quebecois community, and practiced illusionism for several months, although his stubborn attitude and occasionally brutish demeanor made it difficult. Still, in the night, he'd take out his frustrations by playing his guitar out on the streets.

Lawrence first met Marie O'Sullivan while playing outside the shelter, early one morning. She was returning home, and she stopped to listen, sitting down on the pavement in front of him for the duration of a few songs. Afterward, she complimented his skills, he thanked her, and she laughed out at his accent, saying that he 'didn't sound that way singing'.

Marie befriended Lawrence, dragging him away from his classes to spend time with her, relaxing on rooftops, partaking in protests and all-in-all running wild in the destitute little community.

Lawrence and Marie fell in love rather quickly, finding a cure for their loneliness in each-other. They were married at the town-hall within a couple of years, too poor to afford a ceremony, but too happy to care.

Lawrence soon dropped out of his illusionism classes and decided to take a nursing course. It was a risky decision, but Lawrence was determined to make something of himself, and take care of his new wife.

Marie eventually became pregnant with their daughter, Emma O'Sullivan. Although they were already dirt-poor, and Lawrence was still working his way through his course, they were happy, nonetheless.

Shortly before Emma's birth, Lawrence graduated, and shortly afterward, he landed a nursing job at the community's hospital. The pair were, of course, ecstatic. In this job, Lawrence quickly befriended his superior, Dr. Franklin Blythe, who took Lawrence under his wing.

However, immediately after Emma was born, Marie began to fall ill, experiencing severe headaches and fainting spells. Although she swore she was alright, and that it was just after-effects of the birth, Lawrence insisted on bringing her into the hospital.

There, Blythe diagnosed Marie with terminal brain cancer. The two were sent to a better hospital in Thomlin Caster Community and hoped for some sort of better news, but instead of treatment, Marie was implanted and told to go home.

Devastated, and unable to handle the reality of losing Marie, Lawrence fell hard into alcoholism and became very unstable. He started pushing Marie away and even contemplated an affair in an attempt to lessen the inevitable blow of Marie leaving him, but he backed away.

In his unwell state, Lawrence quickly lost the job that he'd worked so hard for and the family was once again forced into poverty, and not long after, the started facing the risk of their young baby being taken away.

Dr. Blythe, who had been offering some financial, as well as emotional support, made the pair an offer to take Emma into his custody so that she wouldn't be taken by the government, and Lawrence and Marie wouldn't be left with no way of knowing where she was. It seemed like their only option, so they willingly gave her up.

But that wasn't Blythe's only offer. Blythe had also begun whispering in Lawrence's ear about a possibility of a cure. Suggesting a disease that would eradicate any ailment in her body to make room for itself. Lawrence was so drawn in by the promise, that when that disease was revealed to be magic rot, Lawrence still had trouble resisting. Blythe's manipulation completely unbeknownst to him.

Lawrence, blinded by Blythe's control, drugged Marie and brought her out to one of Blythe's hidden 'witch farms', where he watched as they surgically removed Marie's implant, allowing her body to flood with rot.

Marie awoke in a fit of violent rage, and due to a failure to properly restrain her, she murdered the witch-farmer, and the others fled.

However, before Lawrence could escape, one of the workers handcuffed him to a tree, stating that he was what she wanted.

Marie found her way through the woods, and to Lawrence, while the others disappeared. At first, she was passive and terrified, but upon reaching into his mind, and discovering what he'd done, she grew irate, biting off his little finger to free him from the handcuffs, and dragging him off into the woods.

Lawrence was found by Blythe and his workers a couple days later, in an abandoned barn, Marie standing protectively over him. Marie was incapacitated, and Blythe gave Lawrence an offer.
Blythe revealed that he had been using manipulative magic on Lawrence with the intention of gaining two new witches, but since he had a witch farm that was short a farmer, he was willing to allow Lawrence to take the position in exchange for his life and the protection of Marie and Emma.

He agreed and now has replaced the old farmer. He captures and turns people into witches for Blythe's use as well as cares for his wife, who is completely witched. In time, he has grown apathetic and empty to allow himself to withstand the duties of his new 'career'.
