-Alec does not want to end up like his father, so sometimes he will do things the exact opposite of what his dad would do. this motivation applies more to his adult life.

Alec was born to his parents, Stacy Sailer and Ian Zephyr in Waco Texas. His mother had dropped out in the middle of her junior year when she found out she was pregnant as Ian finished his senior year. After Alec was born, and both their families refused to help them take care of their child, they moved back to Stacy's hometown, Garrett, Indiana.
Alec's family was pretty normal, aside from the fact that his parents we not married. His sister, Amethyst, was born a year and a half after him.
Around the time Alec turned 7, his parents began to fight a lot more than normal. His dad would work late and his mom would be upset. Amethyst would often sleep in Alec's room because the fighting scared her. Alec began to feel like it was his job to protect Amethyst.
About a year later, Alec and Amethyst came home from school to find their mom packing her bags. She told them she was going on a "trip for work", and that she would be back in a couple of days. She left a letter on the counter for their father and left. Their father was very upset upon reading the letter, and told Alec and Amethyst that their mom was not coming home.
Alec's father then turned to alcohol, and would often not come home at night, and when he did, he would be unconscious or to the point of incompetence. Alec and Amy would spend time over at a friend's house, The Elliott's. Mr Elliott knew Alec's father through work. Haiden Elliott, the oldest son, was Alec's best friend through school.
When Alec and Haiden were in 8th grade, Haiden's mum passed away from an intentional overdose. It had a huge effect on Haiden's life, and Alec's as well. He lost another mother figure in his life.
Alec's dad tried a few times to sober up while Alec was in high school, but it would usually fail. Alec tried to stay as far away from his father as possible because he didn't feel like he even cared about him.
