Akira grew up in an abusive household, mentally, physically and emotionally, which led to her having very serious mental health issues starting at age 15, following her late boyfriend's death. After a trip down the stairs at age 14, she meets a nurse by the name of Angie Steele, who legally adopts Akira at the age of 18, to make sure her parents could no longer undermine her future. Akira moved out and into an apartment following her 18th birthday to keep away from her parents, with a roommate by the name of Krista Miles.
