Overview
Kapaki
10-15 years
"kah-pah-kee"
Physical Characteristics
Kapakis are mammals native to the hotter regions of Salzar, most commonly found in the Reltal Mountains. They are similar in appearance to pangolins, with heavily armored hides, thin snouts, and long, durable claws. Adults are about the size of a medium to large dog. The plates on their backs start out black when the kapaki is born, and steadily turn a dustier shade of red as they grow older.
Magical Characteristics
The hide of a kapaki is heavily fire-resistant, allowing them to survive in Salzar's volcanic regions with ease and even take a blast of Fire Magic with no problems.
Behavioral Characteristics
Kapakis primarily eat insects, and are often sighted around naturally occurring fire Crystals in order to catch any smaller creatures drawn to their magic.
When threatened, a kapaki will hiss and flare up the plates around their neck in a ruff-like shape in order to appear larger. If they are attacked, they will instead roll up in a ball to defend themselves.
Kapakis are common prey for fire Dragons, which are able to pry apart their defensive stance and strike at their softer underbellies.
