History

Founding Story

Once upon a time, the Luverin Empire accidentally broke and there was Terresia. Terresia was cool. Terresia was a relatively large territory for the time, and was located kinda close to the eastern coast and not that close to the former Luverin Empire southern border. Just about every other country was a single tiny city-state or tribe, but Terresia managed to protect a large city and a few farming communities around it. It was one of the safest places in Vansia at the time.

Terresia's main defense was beintg smart. Leaders were chosen for positions based on how smart they were, and had to do better than everyone else on a test to be elected/picked. For instance, someone asks them, "I have family issues. What do I do?" (Except the question would be something relevant to their position). If they answer with some fancy strategy stuff, they have a good chance of getting the position. Also Terresia was located at a high-ish altitude, with the main city on top of a really big plateau (not tall necessarily. It's like Tarantula Hill height, except the other side doesn't go down. It's big because it spans across a lot of land), which also helped them defend themselves.

The problem is that everyone wants to rob them. Terresia has food from their nice little farming communities, and they get lots of crops because they're in a good farming area. So they have plenty of food, everyone else is starving because they don't have a stable society. They had to fend off lots of people and it got annoying.

Then the elementals come along, and they see Terresia being a nice little country, so they helped them take over stuff. Terresia expanded all the way to the eastern coast, west until they hit the giant mountain range in the middle of the continent, south a lot, and north only a little because Novarren already decided that they would be there. Their government got more complex as they grew, and their simple tests got really hard. They also adopted a nice bureaucracy, and threw in some voting to help elect officials. So this is how it works: for certain officials, the winner is determined based half off of the test results and half off of the voting results. Fun and simple.

The two parts of the government were the actual government body, which had the governors of the provinces serving under a president guy called a "sonhar", and their intelligence agency/police who are called the Core. The Core is like the CIA. I tried not to copy from Ristlund, but I'm not sure how successfully that attempt went. The sonhar and family live in the Terresian capital of Faurhaun.

Terresia developed plenty of cool culture stuff, and were nice and cool trading buddies with their neighbors. Novarren started getting corrupt, and Terresia did not like it. They started being more careful when trading with Novarren, like putting certain taxes on them and having certain unique precautions. Novarren didn't like that, and became not chill with Terresia. Their relations got B-A-D bad after that.

Azi Federo, the leader of the Core at the time, saw Novarren doing some shady stuff. They investigated it, but didn't find any evidence that pointed directly to Novarren. There were some clues that you could connect to conclude that Novarren did it, but they couldn't actually convict Novarren without solid evidence. It got shadier and shadier, and it started to get kinda clear that Novarren was trying to influence the Terresian government. Everyone knew that Federo didn't like Novarren, and it was hard not to listen to him because he's a sensible, cool person. The Novic government starts low-key panicking, because their approval ratings are going down and their own country is starting to question them. There are several investigations into Novarren led by the Core, and just after the investigations actually start making progress Federo got assassinated. Gee, I wonder who did it. Novarren does what any corrupt government would do when faced with problems they created: they denied it. There's still no evidence, and Federo gets replaced by a guy named Sef Hallis. Hallis is way more fanatical than Federo, and ranted a lot. He blamed Novarren for just about everything. People didn't trust him as much as Federo, but he got a large following of fellow fanatics on his side. It starts to get annoying because he's saying pretty much everything is Novarren's fault.

Now stuff in Novarren starts going wrong. It's shady. Important trade stuff and government stuff is being sabotaged. There's no evidence, but it's kinda obvious that Terresia is getting its revenge. Some other sneaky and sly Novic government officials start blaming Terresia for everything. The Novic government officials are really corrupt, but at least they're smarter than Hallis, who's just screaming his head off. Shady stuff continues happening in Terresia. Eventually a Novic person is caught trying to sabotage a Terresian government event. He admits to working for the Novic government, and Hallis starts yelling at everyone again and make them declare war.

NICE GOING, NOVARREN. Now Novarren and Terresia are in a war. They did not do a smooth.
