Overview
Trinity
Trinities are arguably the most powerful weapon in the elemental mage's arsenal. Once charged, the Trinity releases a massive explosion of Elemental Energy. It can only be performed with elements of New Magic and has the longest charge time of any elemental spell. It is so named because it takes its energy from three different sources: the Soul Core (as normal), the naturally occurring energy in the air, and the Life Force already circulating in the body.
How to Cast
The casting of a Trinity involves two major steps: the creation of a "spark," and the addition of life force.
The spark contains the elemental energy taken from the caster and environment, and under ideal conditions, manifests as a volatile ball a few inches in diameter. The tighter the energy can be compressed, the more explosive the Trinity will be.
Once the spark is collected, the caster adds in the life force, whether their own or otherwise. The speed of this step must be carefully controlled, both to avoid the spark exploding too early, and to avoid rendering the caster unconscious. Finding the proper balance takes plenty of practice.
Once both steps are completed, the gathered energy is released all at once. While mages have a theoretical limit on their power decided by the size and concentration of the elemental core in their soul, the Trinity goes beyond that cap. It allows the caster to release the greatest amount of energy they could possibly unleash at one time without debilitating physical injury, but once this power is unleashed, it is up to the caster to control it. By default, the energy is released outwards in all directions all at once, creating an explosion unlike any other spell. If the caster is able to direct it quickly enough, the energy can be shaped into other forms of attack, such as a single beam.
