Doopa Troopa

Physical Characteristics
Doopa Troopas are bipedal turtle-like creatures native to Marshroom Kingdom. They reach an average height of five feet and their torso is covered by a large shell, which has space inside for the rest of their body to squeeze in. The color of this shell varies between individuals, but all of them are roughly octahedral in shape with points on the front, back, left and right. Their hands have two fingers and a thumb each, tipped with sharp claws, while their feet are flat with two wide toes. The skin is usually some shade of peach, yellow, or green in color, with a darker tone around the hands and feet.
All Doopas are obligate herbivores. Their mouth has a considerable overbite, but no teeth; they instead use their sharp beak to chew up plant matter. They have a keen sense of smell that aids them in detecting poisons in potential meals; some Doopas even make a living ensuring the safety of food going to high-ranking officials.
Magical Characteristics
Doopa Troopas have an uncanny ability to bestow magical ability on others. Many are able to feed another being's soul with a limited amount of impure Elemental Energy, allowing the target to cast spells of their own for a short period of time, even in elements that they would normally not have access to. Other Doopas are able to grant the energy necessary to wield small-scale Alternate Forms.
Those that hone their powers become known as "Magidoopas" and wear a robe with a color that designates what magic they specialize in:
- Blue: Raise the defense of others by toughening the skin (or scales) of their target
- Red: Raise offense by strengthening whatever natural ability they have
- Green: Cover the top of the target's head with sharp spikes
- White: Grant the target fluffy white wings
- Orange: Grant simplified Fire Magic
- Yellow: Grant simplified Electricity Magic
- Pink: Heal wounds
- Black: All of the above! (Very rare)
Behavioral Characteristics
Doopas that do not leave their home to pursue bigger and better things live in groups with their extended families, sometimes with several generations living in a single household together. Though their family members' well being is among their highest priorities, most Doopa Troopas live under the rule of the tyrant Mowser, aiding him in his quest for world domination. Some elite fighters even train to reach the status of "Doopatrols" and guard Mowser's inner sanctum and his very life.
