Overview
Aida Spacetime Incident
An event that happens hundreds of years in the future, centered around an ancient Spirit named Aida and their three long-term magical projects:
- The AIDA Cubes, or "portal agents" as Aida called them, a revolutionary variation on Magitech that Aida built by the dozen and charged with their own Space Magic.
- The Brigade Relic (as it would later be known), an experiment in seizing errant magical energy drifting through the universe and putting it to better use.
- A time machine, built by one Carl Savette in the past, which Aida came across in their travels and finished. Carl was never able to achieve true time travel in his lifetime, but Aida's immortality allowed them to gather the requisite Time Magic over centuries of on-and-off work.
One fateful day, there was an accident. A massive Crystal became unstable and shattered, triggering a chain reaction that unleashed centuries' worth of stored magical power all at once. This had far-reaching effects that would alter the course of Zeta's history and complete the Central Time Loop.
Loss of the Relic and Portal Agents
The Space energy from the portal agents combined with the Time energy from Carl's machine, and flung all of Aida's inventions across time and space. The Relic was buried deep in Terrata's earth and found by the Brigade, while the portal agents fell into the hands of many Zetans across history. The latter is the sole means of living beings to cross between Realms of their own volition.
Other possessions of Aida's were lost as well, including journals such as "Analysis of the Creator".
Cross-Realm Evictions
The accident also triggered huge spatial distortions throughout time, which forcibly teleported many Zetans to other Realms entirely. Many examples occurred centuries before the start of Zeta's story, and a millennium before Aida's time. Before this incident, Exans were only found in Exul, Dragons in Salzar, and so on, but generations later, the non-native races have settled into their new homes.
End of the Old Age
Some of the magic found in the Relic combined with the cross-Realm transport potential of the portal agents, and was sent throughout all of Zeta. It seeped into many different Realms -- particularly Terrata, Ludo, and Marshroom Kingdom -- and bolstered the natural magical ability of their residents. This signaled the end of the Old Age, and forever altered how magic would be used throughout the universe.
