History
Way back in the day there was a big 'ol empire. Like REALLY big. Like almost-all-of-Vansia-size. It's called the Luverin Empire. They're cool and good. Oops, they're corrupt now. Oops, the ruler just got killed. He was killed by his daughter, Alma Ayari, who decided that it's better for her to have to kill her super corrupt father than to have him abuse their country. Oops, the empire broke.
Oh dang, Vansia's now broken and in chaos. All the peaceful little countries in the west that weren't part of the Luverin Empire are fighting too, 'cuz all the broken little kingdom shards are trying to rob them. OH NO STOP FIGHTING
Now here come the elementals. The elementals are magical, and they a powerful magical object called Ludemor. Using Ludemor, they separate Vansia into a few countries: Novarren (the big one in the northeast) Terresia (the one to the south of Novarren) Keronde (the one that the elementals didn't actually create, but some kingdoms decided they didn't want to be conquered and made a confederation), and the little boiz in the west that the elementals mostly left alone. Now everyone's cool and good.
The elementals stop interfering in stuff and chill while the countries do nice society stuff, including a few tiny wars. Uh-oh, now Novarren and Terresia (the two big ones) are mad at each other. They're sneakily sabotaging each other. Uh-oh, someone from Novarren got caught and now they're in a very inconvenient war. Keronde is slowly backing away and hiding in their foresty-forest.
The elementals say, "Oh no oh dang that's bad." Alma Ayari, that one daughter of the empire (she became an elemental, and the most important leader elemental too), is saying, "Hey y'all we should use Ludemor to take over Novarren and Terresia and strengthen our laws and influence." Most of the elementals agree with her. A group just under 2/3 the size of Alma's group are the peaceful bros and are saying, "No, we should try to find a peaceful resolution, and if we can't, then we should just end the war without conquering anyone STOP BEING POWER-HUNGRY." Like ten people say, "Let's do nothing." Alma's one kid is part of those ten people.
Which side are you on? Well I don't care, and neither does Alma, who just stole Ludemor, and is conquering everyone. SIKE THE MOST POWERFUL PEACEFUL BROS BROKE LUDEMOR AND NOW NOBODY KNOW WHERE THE PIECES ARE. Also, they cursed Alma that her child would kill her BUT NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT THAT PART. Also, the peaceful bros who broke Ludemor died from the energy use.
Now the elementals are fighting. The peaceful bros and the ten people ran away. About two years later Alma hunts down her child and kills her, and now the ten people is nine people. The nine people are not seen again. The peaceful bros are Alma's only remaining opposition. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
Meanwhile, Novarren and Terresia are starving and/or drafting their people. They did not do a smooth.
Rules
Just past Middle Ages level of advancement, not quite to a time period like the Renaissance. Somewhere stuck in the middle.
Same as Earth's laws of physics except for the elemental powers. Also a bunch of other stuff is slightly different because it's a different world.
The most common type of magic is elemental magic. There might be one or two extremely rare forms of magic other than elemental magic that can be wielded by humans, but the only confirmed form is elemental magic. Elementals can also wield lawless magic, which is more complicated and shall be explained after this. The types of elementals are fire, water, earth, air, dark, light, technical, mind, crafter, and blood. The first six are what they sound like. Technical deals with the specifics of magic, stuff like suppressing magical abilities, detecting spells, curses, or someone with powers, setting anti-teleportation zones, etc. Mind elementals can't directly read people's mind, but they can read social behavior extremely well, sense other people's emotions, occasionally communicate with other people through thoughts, etc. Crafters are people who can manipulate materials. The weakest crafters can just make things extremely well and easily bend/break stuff. The most powerful can manipulate most solids, except for warded stuff, certain metals that repel magic, any living things, and random stuff that can't be shaped just because. Blood power sounds like the power to control blood or living things or something like that but ha fooled you it's not. Blood powers have powers of all four of the main elements, which are fire, earth, air, and water OF COURSE. Now it's logic time. All living critters have a life force/energy. If they use up too much of their energy, they get tired. If they use all of it up, they die. Elementals got a different force stuck in them, supposedly by the gods. They also have a magical energy source, which they use when they're doing magic OF COURSE. Life energy is more important OF COURSE, because if you use up your magic force you're only exhausted and your magic has to refill before you can use it again, but if you use up your life energy you die, OF COURSE. For normal people, if you use up too much of your life force you become exhausted. For elementals, if you use up too much of your life force or your magic force you become exhausted. Life energy and magical energy have about the same amount of freedom, cuz with life energy you can do lots of stuff like jumping and running and hippity hopping, but with magical energy you can only do what the magical energy is engineered to do. So if you have magical energy tuned to fire power, you only have the powers of a fire elemental. BUT you can technically use your life energy for magic, and you cannot use your magic energy for life. Well, not really. If you have a large amount of magical energy you tend to have a largely extended lifetime. BUT THAT DOESN'T MATTER (except it kind of does). Oh well. If an elemental uses up all their magical energy, and they keep using magic, they will start using up their life force. Since their life force isn't meant for magic, it will be used up quicker than their magical energy. Usually when life force is used for magic, the person doing it dies or goes into a coma OF COURSE. So magic naturally avoids life energy, and if an elemental uses up all their magical energy, they have to consciously push through the barrier between the two energies to access their life energy. That also means that magic can usually not directly affect living things, except for earth power growing plants and stuff like that. So water elementals cannot draw the water out of someone. That is NOT PERMITTED. The other magic that can be used by humans beside elemental magic is lawless magic. Nobody is born with the specific ability to use lawless magic. Lawless magic is rarely done, because it uses up a heck ton of energy. Technically, anyone could do lawless magic, but it would probably kill them unless they have a very powerful magical object. Lawless magic has pretty much no laws. If you break one of the laws of lawless magic you die cuz you're putting your magic force/life force/magical force from whatever magical object you're using into something you either can't do or will use up all your life force to do. The basic laws are no bringing people/critters back from the dead, no creating life, no giving people a permanent magic force, no permanently enhancing your physical/mental strength, and no permanently enhancing your magical strength. Other than that you can turn your hair purple or whatever you want. But there are loopholes cuz loopholes are fun. So you can give a magical object permanent abilities like enhancing the agility of whoever wears it. Or you could do something like undo wards/break curses/etc. Fun happy stuff like that. I think that's all I have but I'll probably come up with a bunch more stuff so I think it's safe to say TO BE CONTINUED/UPDATED.
