Dystopian universe where one country, Chance, had accidentally on purpose locked all of its citizens in a mind game of which there is no escape. When you try to commit suicide, you grow Wings. The wings save you, and the government takes you to the Aviary, where you are experimented on with natzi-type tortures before you are drafted to join the military to save cross, secure the border, secure the governors and other high level government officials.

Dystopian, older teen fiction, real world issues.

Originally, the country of Chance was just Chess, a place built for those who wanted order, a place, and those who sought a challenge for their restless minds. It went well, but Chess couldn't handle all its residents, so they expanded to create Card, then Capitol, then the failed Cross project, which resulted in the state of Chaos around the countrys border, with the state of Cross becoming a reality at last, but not as border patrol, not exactly. Attacks on the government became too frequent after a generation or two of peaceful children, and then the wings became frequent, the Aviary was started, and all government was 'moved to Capitol'. The government still runs in secret underground is Chess, with each state having a governor to keep the state in line with its original goals. This is how it remains now.

Very futuristic, sophisticated weaponry, lots of advanced versions of what we have in our universe. Phones are tiny, slim, thin little devices that open up to reveal a hologram of the devices screen. Can expand as much or as little as needed, most models can expand into movie projections and such as well as becoming a computer with a fully functioning hologram-keyboard as well as a perfectly functioning high quality drawing tablet as to not waste paper. (there is a somewhat resource crisis, but air is breathable and exists, and they've made many technological advancements to eliminate oil, most paper, etc.

The laws of physics still exist completely, but there is technology and such that can break them occasionally. They do exist completely, though.

Magic doesn't really exist, aside from some mentioned Wicca and the Wings, which are widely considered as magic.
