The world is at war. It is an ancient feud reanimated—the humans and their allies against the mighty Giants. The regions have begun to ask for new recruits and Sage just happens to be eligible for the battle camps. When she arrives, she learns more about the war than she ever would have liked, and with it, the recovery of gruesome, bloody secrets buried deep within the lands of her home.

Millennia ago, there was a vicious war between the humans and the Giants. Thousands of lives were lost in the horrible bloodshed known as The First Giant War. History books teach about the wavering hostility of the Giants and the humans' lashing out that eventually lead to war. It was believed, up until now, that the Giants were killed off in a genocide—but now they have risen again, plotting revenge for the loss of their brothers and sisters millions of years ago. The Second Giant War is even bloodier than the last, and people are dying in masses every day, even with the assistance of several other species. Times have grown so desperate that the regions have begun recruiting teenagers as medics, archers, strategists, and assistants. All families with children over the age of fourteen were advised to send at least one child meeting the requirements, but royal families were required to. Sage, unfortunately, finds herself being forced into a "battle camp" in the Swotths where she discovers some of her few hidden talents. She also learns more things about The Giant Wars than she ever would have liked, unveiling a wide array of wicked and bloody secrets about the past and her home that could determine the outcome of the war at hand.
