This is a universe in which normal humans all have something called a "gift." It's our Earth, but everyone has a special ability or aspect of their appearance, regardless of their status, race, culture, etc. It is impossible to have no gifts, but very rare (2-3% of the population) to have only one, i.e. only a physical gift or only a metaphysical gift.

Modern history, very little is known about why people have gifts, but it has been speculated about for milenia.

The beginning of time.

Normal Earth physics. Laws of physics do not apply to elemental powers, or powers of flight.

Most magic is like modern magic, wicca, etc. Magic as a gift is deemed as magic that someone is born with rather than learned magic. Everyone has the ability to do magic, but people born with magic as a gift don't have to learn magic, it's in their blood. They can understand the oldest magical texts.

Modern technology. Technopaths can control, program, reprogram, and update systems using their gift.
