Realistic Modern Fantasy(dude does that exist????)

It's just Earth my dude. Mythological creatures and spooky things have just always existed(kinda similar to literally the real world, if that's your worldview), and magic exists in sort of minuscule quantities. Most aren't aware of it, though.

Think normal physics but also. Don't.

I'm kidding. Generally, everything 'mystical' actually perfectly falls into the realm of science. Just because we haven't figured it out or whatever, doesn't mean it's not possible. Plenty of things are unexplainable and won't be for a while.

Fantasy creatures? Highly intelligent species that avoid us for fear of experimentation or being killed. They're just undiscovered for the most part. Same as the snails constantly being found.

Ghosts? Perfectly plausible and within reason, we just haven't figured out how they work or fit into our world and reality. The soul is completely scientific, leaving behind traces of a person and memories even after their death, especially if they were left with incredibly strong emotions or needs during death.

Magic isn't breaking any sort of physics, it's using what's available to the user. If time travel is possible, who's to say a psychic can't see bits of a person's timeline? Who says that energy can't be imbued into a corpse or skeletons or dead things, bringing them even temporarily to a state similar to life? It's like electricity making something move.

Half of this probably could fit into the magic system chunk but also. They correlate.

People descended from creatures, or people with large wells of untapped power or strong energy can access it, usually in the form of hereditary skills.

Psychics, plant whisperers, necromancers(often start as those with the Sight, most never reach this stage), and even witches, are most often gifted that strong energy from ancestors.

Magic can be a learned skill. Unfortunately, someone learning will never be as powerful as someone with a high energy level, or strong natural magic. You can only be as strong as what you can gain, and there is a limit to what you can expand. However, this means that taught magic users are often crafty, relying on brains and human resources when they run out of magic tricks that work.

Yes mothman exists.

Just all the shit we have today, with more being invented. Magic users into inventing are probably developing things that channel souls residue the way a necromancer can, or devices using the science behind psychic abilities.
