Instead of oceans, the nations are divided by deep forests. Everyone fears the forests. There are only 4 countries, one of which is never traveled to. The other three countries have severely restricted travel between them because of the APC. The only 'regular' flights are ones to dump Undesirables at the drop-off zone. Why they are all dumped in the same place, no one knows. But no one questions it either.

Anything from before 127 years ago is anyone's guess. The only solid things they know are that there was a really gruesome, international war that lasted over 20 years and left the previous government in shambles. The APC rose from that and restricted travel of any kind, divided the people into two groups, the Nightlights (They 'live' during the night) and the Daylights (They 'live' during the day). Each side has 12 hours in which they can go about their lives, having jobs, getting education, hanging out with friends, ect. But as soon as 6 (a.m. for Nightlights, p.m. for Daylights), they have to return to their homes and be asleep by that time, or else they're executed or declared an Undesirable and left in the forest to die. However, only a brave few dare to defy the law.
