A question about "Original" races you created

We all probably know that originality is difficult to get, especially when it comes to different races. So here's a question.

Have you ever created a race that you thought was original then later on learned that something similar existed for a while? If so what was it?

Another question, have you created a race only to realise later on you copied/ were heavily inspired by something you've seen before somewhere?

I 100% have, I got inspired by Tokyo Ghoul ghouls but with some small changes (one being that they don't feast on humans).

Oh my word, all the time. I finally had to console myself with the idea that I was unlikely to ever truly create anything completely original, and that was ok.

It happens all the time! I've gotten so used to it that it doesn't actually bother me anymore. Instead of being worried about whether something is original or not, I worry about if the thing I've created is something only I can write. It's completely normal to take something that's already been written and making it your own.
