Brainstorming a murder method for a horror short story

Hello again Notebook, old friend. Hoping y'all can help me out.

I'm writing a short story that ends with the main character killing someone. I've been trying to puzzle out the murder method, but no ideas so far work; I need some other writers to brainstorm with!

The situation: Victim is recovering from getting pushed off a building, either in the hospital or could wait until they are recovering at home. Method is ideally somewhat painless, but doesn’t have to be. Killer wants plausible deniability ofc, but also needs to be able to see the victim’s dead body firsthand to be 100% certain they died. Killer and victim are college students in their early twenties.

Injecting large amounts of air into the IV is the first thing that comes to mind. I don’t remember if it’s painless or not, but it appears accidental if done right. Basically, where the doctor usually injects the meds into the IV, the murder just takes a syringe full of air and injects that into the syringe. 50/50 it’s either painless or extremely painful. But, it basically causes an air embolism (as in, it blocks the bloodflow due to an air pocket that it too big to move around). However, I don’t know if Plausible Deniability would work unless the murderer is good at erasing camera footage and of leaving no trace of themselves.

Ideally for this one, I’d research air embolism more thoroughly. This is just coming off the top of my head. Hope this helps!

Also, disclaimer: I am not a murderer, I promise, lol. At least, of real people. I do murder a lot of my characters though… fades into the void…

Poison in the food. Something quick acting that looks a lot alike something not poisonous. Mushrooms work well, or possibly something that would have been in the kitchen it was prepared in, like soap, glass, or plastic, in small amounts, that could block the air way.
