Brainstorming+writing practice: Let's make a novel!

I had a fun idea: what if the people on notebook joined forces and made a novel?
That's why you're here.Let's all collectively brainstorm up an idea,develop it and finish it!
I know it sounds really crazy, but these threads have turned into such cool little sub-communities so I thought we'd give it a try!

Rules:
-Anyone welcome!
-Writing style: third person
-Be nice
-Joining late is alright
-Focus on the task at hand
-You're allowed to have any level of comittment. Only doing one thing and helping out in every aspect is alright.
-No NSFW
-Keep off incredibly controversial topics
-Starting up the thread after a long silence is encouraged

(Yes we will be using notebook for it because… We're on notebook. Might also use google docs for writing because they're free so everyone can use them.)

I honestly have no idea how to start anything, but I agree, we should start with getting the basics down. Maybe genre, approximate length, etc?

And I think we should start with genre, and overall concept of it.
Aproximate lenght might by good but it's not prioritized.

So,to start off, what genres do you like/prefer?

Fantasy, Mystery, and Sci-Fi are my three favorites because you can get pretty creative with them and they're fun to read. I also like horror, but I wouldn't know how to write it.

Fantasy is my jam, specifically dark fantasy, but normal is perfectly fine by me too.
I would also like to join if that's all right.

I think fantasy is a good genre because it can give us a lot of creative freedom.
