Collaboration Questions

I was trying to add a collaborator when I got an error message. I managed to add them, but they needed to make an account first. In addition, I am unable to edit contributor pages – it "saves" but it doesn't actually save. I can't link the characters I created with my friend's created characters either. Is this normal, am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Them having to make an account is normal. As for the rest, I don't know. @andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer) would definitely be able to help though!

Hey there! It looks like there's currently a bug that can happen with collaboration where universe owners can't see the pages their contributors have linked (and potentially some other side effects). I'm investigating and should get a fix in tonight's release. Thanks for letting me know!

@einDrache

Thank you!

@einDrache

I also get a Error 500 after I add contributors now, and they don't get an email saying they've been added to collaboration … I'm guessing this is also a bug? Good luck!

@andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer) I appear to have the same bug.

  • Not being able to edit a contributor content or vice versa.

From what I can tell it includes all world building types, so characters, locations, items etc
The edit button is there, it allows to do an edit in theory, it says it saving, but if you go back to file later it didn't, the logs confirm this, there is no entry of any change recently.

Not sure how long this has gone on, but I suspect around the time of auto-save feature, I don't often change my wife (a contributor) content, and neither does she do the same for me. However losing that ability is problematic.

Not being able to edit a contributor content or vice versa.

This is a rather serious bug. I'm investigating what's going on right now to get it fixed, hopefully in tonight's release. More details to follow!

Edit: I've got a fix ready to go for editing collaborated pages (for both text and link fields). Looks like it has indeed been a problem since the auto-save feature launched – permissions on the new autosave were a little too restrictive, making sure only the page owner had permissions to edit its fields (and since contributors didn't have permission to make changes, their requested edits also didn't make it into the changelog). This should be fixed going forward when tonight's release goes live.

Thanks again for letting me know about this!

Hey @einDrache, adding contributors looks to be working now. If you're still having problems, would you mind PM'ing me the universe you're trying to add a contributor to and the email address you're trying to invite so I can dig in further? Thanks!

@einDrache

If it happens again, I can try to remember to do so! I hope it works and thank you for all the work you do, @andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)!

Hey @andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer) ! First off, great site. Loving it. I'm having some issues adding collaborators. I invite them and I get a 500 error message. But if I go back to the collaborators page, it says they've all been invited but none of them are receiving the invites. Am I missing something?

Hey Jacob, it looks like we're having some issues with our email provider and it's not sending out invitation emails (and giving an error that shows up as an error 500 for you).

I'm reaching out to them now to figure out what's going on and hope to get it sorted out soon, but in the meantime you should be able to skip the invite stage altogether by sending an invite to someone who already has an account on Notebook.ai with that exact email. When an invite is created for an account that already exists, it's supposed to automatically accept and instantly give them collaboration access. Depending on the error, there's a small chance this won't work, but it might be a workaround if the email provider takes some time to get back to me.

If you'd like, feel free to PM me the universe and the email you're trying to invite and I can link an existing account to it as a collaborator also.

Sorry about the inconvenience; I hope to have it sorted out soon!

Just figured this out! Worked perfectly. Thanks for the quick response! Keep up the amazing work!

(Collaboration invitation emails look like they're fixed and sending successfully again. Thanks for the heads up!)
