Demon King (OxO) (CLOSEDDD?)

Pretty much the plot is that humans and demons have been battling for centuries and centuries, and humanity has started to send ‘heroes’ to defeat the Demon King. This is about one of those heroes, but they don’t find what they expected ; the Demon ‘King’ is in fact a girl this century, she wishes to find what it means to love and then to love someone, and she wishes to help the heroes in the true battle that awaits them. The final battle would just be against past Kings basically.
This is a fantasy roleplay, so magic is allowed, this is definitely not modern, and your character cannot be extremely op.
To clarify, the roleplay will start slightly before(probably when the hero reaches the demons city or the castle)the hero meets the Demon King (alternatively) Whilst the hero is on their way to the castle in the Demon Realm. Basic rp rules apply. I do not have a template for you due to reasons, you may: Use/make your own template or give a quick snippet about your character. No pressure to wrong long, detailed responses, at least a paragraph or so.

Appearance: Chestnut coloured hair, waist length, slightly wavy. Deep red eyes, almond type shape. Pale skin, barely gets any sun, especially in the Demon Realm. 5’ 8”, wears heels to make herself look taller(Rather short by demon standards). Medium build. Slightly long nails. Thick black horns, kind of similar to Malificents.

Apparel: Typically wears full gowns in various shades of red, she likes off the shoulder dresses. Is supposed to wear gloves but doesn’t bother to. Wears short dresses and flat shoes as much as she can.
Personality: Rather kind. Very focused and methodical. Laid back, very serene most of the time. Pretty scary when she’s angry. Indecisive. Tries to be as fun as possible, has a rather pure smile. Pleasant to be with when she’s happy. Gets embarrassed easily, rather cute when she gets all flustered.
Favourite Food: Chiffon cake
Interests: Butterflies, Baking, Humans, Love, Painting.
Backstory: Never met her mother, her father died in battle when she was young. Was raised by an old maid who had worked for many, many Demon Kings. Spent a lot of time looking at scenery and paintings from the Human Realm, no one could stop her. This led to her becoming the person she was today. Once she was old enough to remember things, she realized how corrupt demons were and saw the wrong in the humans heroes. From there, she committed herself to finding a better ending for both the demons and humans. Challenged the previous Demon King, as how one became the King after a century passed, and that’s how she got here.(Every Demon King is allowed 100 years of unchallenged reign, then anyone can challenge them after that. As long as you are super strong and can defeat the current King you can become the new King. Orchid won with a bit of luck and charms, and her strategy to use the King’s arrogance against him. And being descended from a previous King also probably tipped the scales in her favour). Works with the maid that raised her in hopes of finding something to aid her in her impossible quest.
Other: Useless in actual battle but great at strategy. Has a vast collection of butterfly painting she did. Always has a painting nearby she can work on during breaks from studying.

Styx Snorkel liked fight- she had always liked to fight. Being 7'2" and built like a tank made it easy to fight physically- but it wasn't the only kind she knew how to do. As a baby she fought off sickness, one of the few children to survive the plague that infected her town. As a toddler she fought her siblings, but into school she had to fight her own nature. She fought herself to stay in school, to stay out of detention. She fought her way to the top, she needed to be the best at everything, team captain of multiple sports and best grades. As a rather moody teenager, she fought with her parents often, running away at least twice before coming to her sense and returning home. She graduated college and was offered positions at high paying companies, but turned them down for a job in the high guard, a set of elite military specialists. It was hard, being the only one on the team who didn't know magic, but she fought to keep her place. As the demons advanced into allied realms territory, the high guard was sent out with the most important mission of the century: to kill the demon king. The team fought there way through enemy territory, burning a path through the front lines. Every one of her teammates, her closest friends, even her lover, were killed or captured. Standing alone, before the final gate to the last demon city where the demon king was, she laughed. She was just going to do what she always did. She was going to fight.

Other: She was adopted by two halflings after her parents died of the plague, but isn't torn up about it because she was pretty little and loves her halfling parents a lot. Most of her siblings came with her, but the older ones just moved out.

(Wow, you’re character is awesome man. I have a few things planned to keep the plot going, but not a lot and it’s not very restricting. And I’m open to hearing ideas.)

For what I’ve got so far, the war would have been mainly the human advances so far. Majority of the past demon kings were very focused on the idea of having more power(hence why they became King). And, yes, there is quite a bit of a strength and magic bonus to becoming the Demon King, so the Demon becomes much harder to kill. Other Kings simply made small scale attacks to waste time, or attempted to steal from the other races. Since the Demon Realm is rather barren, there isn’t much for a Demon to have- other than power and strength. So, demons go to the other races in hopes of scoring valuables and most of the time it doesn’t end very well because of how Demons have been raised to deal with things.
So, as expected, the other races(especially the humans, since they were targeted the most) have a huge grudge against the Demons. Because the history has been running for a very long time, the struggle between the races are pretty much integrated in their cultures.
The humans are on relatively good terms with the other races, the strongest and largest alliances are with the Dwarves and the Lizardmen.
Orchid was mainly kept away for most her life, since she lacked the resolve she needed to survive outside. The head maid and her subordinates were forced to leave, so they decided to stay with Orchid(mainly out of pity). Orchid grew up experiencing very little, but when things happened, it wasn’t very light on the palette if you know what I mean.
Since Orchid had so much time to herself, she had a lot of time to think. And through events she landed herself here. I can write some more about this as the plot progresses and as I figure more out. Is there anything else you would like to know?(I didn’t check for typos etc. So I apologize if there are any errors)

(Yeah, of course! So the war is over general thievery/invasions? The demons craved land/power/wealth and took over neighboring territories, plundering and taking over everything and alliances to these non-demon kingdoms eventually involved almost all the human world (mostly) united against a common enemy. Tell me more about what demons are, as a race. Did they come form some kind of actual magic underworld? Or is that just a name? Are they truly demonic or do they just play into stereotypes? Are they all physically similar or is there a lot of variations? (ie some are human-like, while others are just goats with snake tounges like medieval paintings) How long has she been the demon King, is her reign just starting or about to end or are we in a safe zone? I'm still curious are demonic allies and neutal parties. I am also excited about the possibilities of magic in this world- light magic and dark magic is a little cliche, but I'm not against using it. Styx has always wanted to be a wizard, but gave it up young because she couldn’t be the best (orc/humans have no natural inclination) . The story of this world is one I'm super invested in now :) :) )

The Demons did not come from an underworld, they are simply viewed and labeled as demons. Since no other races even try to understand the Demons, there can of course be rumours and such that change how people view the Demons(and distort what they really are).
The Demons kind of play into their stereotype, though they only possess common magic and have to learn through books(or from being taught. Which is also a reason as to why the steal (and possibly kidnap)from the other races). Their personalities are more inclined as to how they are stereotypically, and they choose more violent means of solving problems and are definitely not good people. Because their behaviour is very integrated into how they live, no one has the time or patience to be nice.
The physical appearances of the demons are varied. Some are more humanoid, and have various ranges of skin tones, eyes, horns, tails etc. And others are more in-human based, some just partly and others completely(varying from forms like the medieval painting demons, shadowy silhouettes, or two headed cows etc.)
Orchid has only been the Demon King for somewhere around 15 years- so her reign is pretty much just starting and she’s got another 85 years of unchallenged reign.
So far, she’s been partly focusing on fixing up the Demon race and hopefully bring it to a more prosperous, efficient, and sustainable era. The other things she is focusing on also include helping the humans with correcting their misguided rumours and to clear the Demon’s name(which is also why she needs to clean up her country).
It also makes me very happy to see that you are interested in this. I’ve been very into this idea, so I thank you. Your questions are also helping me to think a bit more about this world. Is that all? I may have missed something.

(Other players in the war? Magic beyond common? Religion? )

Involved in the war, other than the humans, would be the humans strongest allies the Dwarves and Lizardmen. There is also the Elves and Goblins who have been affected more than other races besides the humans. Though within pretty well every race, there has been some kind of incident that would cause resentment between the races.
Most of the races are also influenced by the humans, which would only worsen these effects. And in the battles of the war, all the races have the right to fight, so there’s plenty of variety of fighters out there.
Magic would be sectioned by Common and Uncommon, Rare, and Extraordinary. Common magic is focused more around healing small cuts and surface wounds, patching and mending clothes, or lighting a candle without a match. Uncommon magic is a bit more advanced version of common magic, where it simply enhances the effects of the basic magic, and the incantations needed for using this magic can be taught or learnt though book. Rare magic is only obtainable through a bloodline and history, mainly noble figures or those of higher statuses have Rare magic. It entails more of what the Uncommon magic can do, as well as more on the manipulation of an element. Extraordinary magic is very rarely found, and is often only found dormant in ancient relics. The magic can cover all the folds of the other magics, essentially to their limits, and it is more efficient and easier on the user.
For religion, each race has their own sort of beliefs(which I haven’t written about yet, cuz there’ll be a lot to write), though, there is one religion that is possibly practiced in every races realm. The Order of the Holy Light, are this religions followers name. They believe in the Holy Light, and put up shrines and temples, and pray for good fortune etc. They believe that the Holy Light will bring unforetold peace and equality, and grant everyone equal power in their lives. The Holy Light is salvation, they say. Their goal they seem to have, is to unite every race under the Holy Light and bring forth a ‘Golden Age’, though it seems very fishy. They provide service to those who have struggle in their lives and no one is really against them. Especially those who are directly influenced by the war, towns that they be brought down, or people who have family missing, they are given a place in the Order of the Holy Light.

Sprawled across the table was scrolls of inked parchment and stacks of books. A half empty ink pot and a horribly stained cloth were shoved in between it all. A slice of chiffon cake sat up on a book stack, slightly picked away at.
Orchid rubbed her temples and shook out her hand. She had been scouring endless amounts of books and scrolls, trying to find clues. She needed an understanding of the humans and other races. She needed knowledge of the human heroes and their ideals, and hints as to how the humans were. How she could help them, secure an alliance, and to save this world.
Couldn’t there be someone out there who wants to understand the demons?
She needed to be able to negotiate and counter the advances thrown at her.
She stood up out of her chair, “Head Maid, I’ll be taking a break. I’ll be in the throne room.”
The throne room had a large window which would give her a view of her kingdom. It would also be quiet, cool, and serene in the room- which is exactly what she needed.
She descended a couple flights of spiraling stairs and shoved open the tall, back doors of the throne room.
She sat herself down on the throne and stared down the dimly lit hall. The sound of trickling water echoed in the room, which would have been more relaxing if Orchid didn’t know that it wasn’t the sound of water.

(Is it blood? Ew.)
Styx stood at the wall- these high gates would’ve been so easy to teleport over or plan jump through, had she not been on her own. She pushed the thought out of her mind. There wasn't time for grief or guilt-or even anger. There was only room in her mind for one thing: getting in.
It was dark, a cloudy morning. Rain was falling in her area, but light enough she knew it would clear up soon. She would start climbing when the clouds broke- the sun would give her enough cover to get in without notice- these beasts saw better in the dark, after all.
The wall was solid obsidian- fire scorched and slippery. When sharpened, she knew it was the most dangerous natural weapon on earth, sharper and more precise than even steel. The black backdrop to her camp was foreboding to say the least, but she was used to it by now. The dark stone seemed to suck the light right out of the air- but that wasn't the problem. The problem arose with its smoothness. The rain was one the thing, but the complete lack of handholds was another.
It was as she was drying off her climbing gear that she heard a noise. Far off, on the main road, the creaking of a wooden cart. It must be from one of the far off agricultural communities, making a delivery. She grinned, grabbing her backpack and cloak, arming herself.
Maybe she didn’t have to climb the wall.

Orchid drew her knees close, and rested her head on them. She was rather tired from all her work, and she didn’t sleep a lot anyway.
She looked at her open palm, smears of ink were blotched on it and papercuts were peppered across her fingers.
The flags that hung on the throne room walls reflected in the torch light. Dark liquid dripped and flowed down their rotting edges. Each flag has a different face painted on it, every Demon King slightly changed to seem more regal.
A door opened, startling Orchid, and she looked around to see who it was.
The Head Maid walked quietly from one of the servants doors to Orchid.
“My King, You forgot your cake.”
Orchid happily took the plate, “Thank you, Head Maid.”
She immediately took a bite, the joy from eating her favourite cake would fix her mood. Today she had almond, which was apparently hard to find in the Demon Realm, which only made her feel a bit guilty eating it.
The maid bowed to Orchid and returned to where she can from. The maid was Orchid’s biggest helper by far, and she would remain searching for information while these orders stayed.

Styx did not wonder why so much flour was being transported into the city. She never slowed to ponder the people who spent a year farming and processing wheat to make the flour. She didn’t think about the bread, the noodles, the cake it would later be used for. Styx Snorkel had one thing and one thing only on her mind: not breathing.
Not thinking was the hardest, most essential thing she learned from the High Guard. Be strategic, not thoughtful. Be innovative, not creative. Don't let emotion blind you, not anger, not fear, not mercy. Underneath the bags of flour, she laid, hoping the guards would not check too throughly. All she had to do was hold her knife tightly and not breathe.

There were many ornaments throughout the castle of the Demon Kings. They all were carved obsidian or mismatching arrangements of stolen gems. Orchid dared not move them or cover them in case she angered the past Kings. Though they were gone, they still had enough power altogether.
Orchid felt the extravagance of the castle was overpowered by its un-matching colours and gems. She got rid of as much as she could, not that there was much she could get rid of.
She took another bite of her cake, her mood improving bit by bit.
At the back of her mind, was the pressure of the constant war. The stupid Kings, so greedy and arrogant, made horrible decisions. The impossible task to clear the demons names would take her whole life span. If there was a person out there, who even had the thought that the demons could be befriended, that they too had lives and maybe they weren’t the evil creatures they thought they were, then the chances of some success would be higher.

She couldn't believe it- of all the times she could've been lucky? Istus must be trying to make amends. As if anything could be worth the what- who she had lost. The cart she was hiding in was headed straight for the palace.
As they approached an unloading area, she pulled down her hood and stood, grabbing a bag of flour. She tossed it towards a delivery boy, young and snake-eyed. His tongue flicked between fangs involuntarily, as they worked to unload the flour. Her black gloves provided enough deniability from beneath her cloak so not to draw attention. The driver assumed she was from the kitchen and the kitchen assumed she was with the delivery- that was disguise enough, wasn’t it?
She nodded to the two men as they signed paperwork and excused herself to a stairway. Ducking into a closet, she pulled out a map of the castle. She wouldn’t have it, of not for the pride of the demon Kings. It had been passed down through the High Guard. One man had been sent back two hundred years ago, tortured, but not to the brink of insanity as he had been led to believe. Kedin, Hero of Rosenheart, was the only hero ever to return from the Demon Kingdom, twenty years after deployment, as a message never to send another. But Kedin held the key to send another, a team, more prepared, the reason Styx had made it this far. Everything Kedin had learned, the secrets no human has known a hundred years, had led the High Guard. But it had not saved them.
Not all of them.
She traced her fingers over the yellow pages. The had endured a lot- snow, rivers, explosions- she stopped. She tried to think about the map but she could not imagine the twists and turns; she could only imagine explosions. Dirt, rocks, metal, debris, blood- flying through the air. The noise- Cecile flying through the air, lifeless.
Styx was on the floor, covered in sweat. Her knuckles were white from holding her crossbow and the map. She peeled away her fingers and wiped her sweat away. She cleared her mind- maybe when this was over, she thought, she could become a monk. She had to get rid of everything. No Cecile, no explosions, no fear, no anger, and no mercy.

Just giving a few thoughts about the war, pulled Orchid further back in her mind. What if the humans were planning a large scale attack? What if they tried to infiltrate the castle? What if they disguised themselves as Demons and snuck into the kingdom?
So many questions with no answers. Orchid was secure enough, she could be protected well enough, but the disguise part really annoyed her. If the Demons mistook a human as staff or a guard, they could easily get close to her. They’d be missing the kind of aura of the race, but no one ever checks to see if it’s legit or not. Then they could take her out.
Orchid shook her head, as an attempt to cast away the thoughts. She took a bigger bite of cake this time, but it only helped a bit more.
There was also the problem of the children of the kingdom. Out of the general population, many were frail and beat, despite there being enough for everyone. Inequality was another tough problem to solve, especially if there was nothing good to unite the people with.

She was glad she had eaten the last of her bread last night- carb loading was a trick discovered for marathons, not battle, but to the body it was no different. She just wished she had some sugar- as that thought formed in her mind, she realized she had not walked into a closet, but instead some kind of sub-pantry. Around here, wines, jams, and honey.
"Pep talk," she whispered, unscrewing the top of a jar of honey, " I can't remember if the pep talks help or not."
She heard steps in front of the door and hid behind a shelf. They didn't come in- but what if they had heard her? If she could hear a cart creaking across a forest, what stopped them from hearing whispering behind a door? She took a sip of honey, giving herself a more silent pep-talk.
Patience is key- she knew how to be patient. She'd been waiting three years in hell to get here, she could wait a couple days. Stay hidden, stay close to the light, stay against the walls, in the ceiling, watch and listen. When he was vulnerable, then she would attack. She couldn't just waltz in and kill the King- that wouldn't solve anything. She had to use the only spell she knew, a pre-prepared transmutation potion- all she need was blood. She wasn’t just going to kill the King.
She was going to become the King.

For Julia, she thought, removing a grate to the ventilation system.
For Damien, she thought, tightening her cloak of silencing.
For Jorhdaan, she thought, climbing into the wall.
For every person dead on the battlefield of the useless, useless war.
For her parents, her home, her country.
She removed the other grate, dropping a rope to the rafter below her, the one behind the King's throne. She landed silently, observing the massive throne room, blending in with the gargoyles around her.

“If only I could solve all these problems faster …” Orchid whispered to herself.
She prepared herself for the responsibility that she would take upon in this position, but getting through it long term- she’d have to suffer through. The demons have been in the wrong too long, and most of them deserve a chance.
Orchid toyed with her hair, watching the sheen of light from the torches dance on its waves. When she learned that her appearance was rather human-like, she was happy. If the humans, and other races, were like what she had heard, it would help. She could seem more convincing and friendly.
Orchid finished her cake, and the fork flattered onto the plate. She winced at the noise as it echoed in the hall.
The servants door opened again, this time the Head Maid has brought tea.
“My King, I made you some tea.”
“Thank you, Head Maid. I’ll head back to help you guys soon.”
The maid took the empty plate and fork, Orchid taking a cup of tea. Orchid sipped the tea, eyes half closed. Being tired and having hot tea was a good combination to relax, but not a good start to more work.
“I need to get back soon before I fall asleep,” she yawned.

The smell of tea and cake filled the air, shocking Styx as she peer over the edge at the scene below her. A young woman, regal and beautiful- in a horrifying kind of way, sat drinking out of a polished black glass teacup. It was a strange scene, flags, paintings, sculptures, but, as she looked around, there was an obvious missing detail from Kedin's account- where were the heads of the previous attempts of assassination? The Rosenheart book had drawings of this room and across from her, there should be dozens of human, elf, and lizardfolk heads, mounted on the wall, shrunken, stuffed, or preserved, all depicting expressions of pain, fear, and horror. She had trained for weeks looking at dead bodies so she wouldn't throw up at the sight of them. She slowly realized that many of the details of the room had been changed to be less gruesome: no paintings depicting battles, no blood drenched swords adorning the walls- and the things that were here in their place were different. Scenic landscape paintings, marble sculptures- the cake in itself was so strange and out of place. Becoming this King would be a little different from what she trained for.

Orchid hastily drank the last of her tea, and stood up. She looked around the throne room, as if she were expecting something to walk out of the shadows.
She blinked herself awake and sighed.
What else did she need to do today? Other than more research, there were also the problems from the edges of the kingdom, which were the hardest to tend to since it was far. There was also the war, the demons who decided to leave the realm on their own accord, the inequality issues, Orchid would need to prepare to meet the other races eventually as well. Figuring out a way to hide her horns would most likely be a good place to start.
Orchid put her teacup next to the wall and watched it slowly fill with a dark liquid. Whatever it was, Orchid never knew where or what it came from, and she’d given up trying to get rid of it. It couldn’t be consumed, and it wasn’t very pleasant for anything of use, but it could be used as ink. Orchid could fill her cup and refill her ink pot in the study.
She continued down the hall to the door closest to her study. She passed a painting she’d done with butterflies and flowers. Both things were very beautiful, and she hoped she’d get to see some when she left the realm. If flowers that didn’t look like black brambles and smelt like the dead grew here, Orchid probably would keep arrangements throughout the castle.

As Styx followed the demon, she became more and more aware of the bizarre nature she possessed. Butterflies- so many paintings of butterflies, but distorted, as if painted by someone who had never actually seen one, just heard from a friend who hated them. Flowers- but painfully neon or blood red, with thorns and twisted green leaves. Purple skies, green oceans, orange trees, all framed in hand carved dark wood or black stone.
It wasn't as if Styx was entirely familiar with flowers. It had been a number of years since she'd seen any kind she knew the names of. Past the the Featherturn seas, the flowers grew dark, absorbing every bit of the suns light they could, using every thorn and scent to keep from being trampled or eaten- and Styx understood that. She didn't hate the flowers, the flowers didn't have a choice. They just evolved a certain way to survive. Flowers to the west of the Featherturn were no better and were no worse than the ones to the east. They weren't evil or bad. They're flowers.
They just were.

Orchid finally made her way back to the study, the sight of the papers and books worsening her exhaustion.
She poured the dark liquid into her ink pot, and handed the cup to a maid.
The last part she had left off at was where the introduction of religion began. Apparently the other races had higher beings they be believed in and worshipped. There were places called temples or shrines or churches where they grouped together to worship the higher beings.
Orchid knew that she should familiarize herself with the cultures of the races, but there was so much and it made no sense. Though, it was nice to learn that the other races had less inequality issues and that some places had banned slavery.
“My King,” a younger maid made her way to Orchid and curtsied. “We have copied down more of the information on the Human’s organizations in power. We have searched through today’s section of the foreign books as well and copied down anything that may be of importance.”
The maid held out four scrolls of parchment.
“Thank you, you may all rest now. I will take over the last of today’s research, so please take it easy.”
The maid curtsied again and left the study.
Orchid yawned and opened the first of the scrolls. One of the first things mentioned was an organization that specialized in agriculture, which led to Orchid wondering what she could offer. From the few ‘heroes’ who had come to slay the ‘real’ Demon King, she had learned they could be bought or persuaded. If she could offer a supply of foreign goods, that could help with building a stronger foundation.
