There is a parasite called a tongue-eating louse that attaches itself to the tongues of oceanic fish, draining the blood until the tongue atrophies and falls off! After that, the louse becomes the new tongue!

In the 19th century, before medical professionals had the tools to discern comas or paralysis from death, the fear of being buried alive was very real. Patented ‘safety coffins’ were invented so that mistakenly buried people could alert those above ground to their predicament.

There was a man who drank irradiated water for his health. It didn't turn out so good, by the end of his (shortened) life, he looked like he walked straight out of a horror movie! Horrible sores, clumps of hair falling out, no teeth, large holes in his bones and organs, it was so bad that he needed to buried in a lead-lined coffin.

Fun Fact #20:

During Pope Gregory IX’s term, he declared that cats were associated with devil worship, resulting in their mass extermination. Ironically, it is believed that this large-scale expunging of felines helped to spread the Bubonic Plague, which ravaged Europe in the 1300s and killed over a hundred million people. No cats meant the rat population (which carried the plague) ran wild.

Fun Fact #21:

The sun is classified as a G-type main-sequence star, or G dwarf star, or more imprecisely, a yellow dwarf. Actually, the sun — like other G-type stars — is white, but appears yellow through Earth's atmosphere. Stars generally get bigger as they grow older.

It is a common misconception that animals can only see in black-and-white. While they do not have as many color receptors as humans, most animals can perceive blues and yellows, along with certain animals being able to see in different color spectrums or have far more color receptors than humans. Butterflies have six different color receptors, meaning that they can see colors we can't possibly think of!
