Lol hi!

So uh every story have a protagonist eh?
So how does one even create a protagonist for their story.
I've only been creating antagonists, villain, supposedly-the-friends-of-the-protagonist and uhh side characters without much problems… but
I really need some advice from you wonderful people on how to create a protagonist.
I can't seem to come up with a solid personality for this character and I often draw my characters on a piece of paper.
But since I can't get a solid idea on my protagonist personality, every feature I add into this characterwhen I draw just doesn't feel right.

Any piece of advice is very super mega ultra absolutely definitely 100% surely & undoubtedly appreciated.

OK so a lot of the time, I get an idea for a story/RP.
A lot of the time, my mind will start thinking about a character I could use.
Most of the time, I get a background in my head, and then I work with the character off that.
For me, background is the most important thing, because you can get a personality and almost everything off it.
Appearance, to me, is the least important thing. Skin colour or hair type is only skin deep, it isn't the whole person. But name is definitely important, as it can either allude to what the character is like or completely mislead.

Protagonists are a blast to make! What I do, is I first decide their role in the story, (like, what do they do that changes this world for the better?Or how do they change THEIR world for the better?) Then you make the character! If you want to make them more interesting, try giving their personality traits that oppose their role. (For example, they could have the most dangerous powers ever seen before, but they wouldn't hurt a fly- Or, like, a princess that really just wants to slay dragons.)

Making their personality is the fun part- If you need ideas, I'd try googling the 16 personality types and flipping through those!

TIP: Self-inserting works okay too, when you're needing a solid personality, but if your protagonist ever gets in hurt or in a romantic situation, it might feel kinda awkward for you XD (That's my experience anyway :0)

Don't forget to give them habits, quirks, and- most importantly- FLAWS ;)

I think that you really need to put thought into the protagonist. For example, you shouldn't make them too overpowered, but you can come up with creative ways that their powers show and creative abilities. Also, personality-wise, you should give them some complexity to their emotions and dominant traits. There are so many possibilities, and I would suggest experimenting. The 16 personality types are also helpful. As for physical features, you could make those with a bit of a base off of the personality. Like, depending on the person's personality, their eye shape could be different, or their features could have either softer or harsher lines and edges. I think it really depends also on how you feel their past is like. A lot of people's personalities depend heavily on their past experiences, and I think they could affect physical features too. I tend to give my characters traumatizing pasts, so I don't have much experience with characters who have happier backstories, but I think that that that advice can go for any character that you're building.
