Help, my story is falling apart the more I think about it

How do I apply a normal job to a bizarre world, and how far do I take the world building? I'm writing a comic and it seems sort of strange to pull up fine details within the world's system/law/? when I'll be mostly focusing on the main character and villain. It doesn't seem like it'll come up as to who their president is or what the entire country looks like, where do I draw the line? As for the job I'm focusing on for the main character, he is a detective/cop and it just seems so normal compared to the strange supernatural characters/world around him. I don't know how to fit it within the story without it being too obvious that I didn't put too much thought into it.

A detective is not too out of place in any setting. Everyone needs their stuff found or mysteries solved.

In my mind, I think a seemingly "normal" character can make for an appealing contrast against the fantastical world he/she lives in.

@abby

Maybe let the main character acknowledge how strange his world is compared to his job?? Or maybe he's friends/neighbors with supernatural characters and it's just a normal thing to him since he's used to living in a bizarre world.

@RebeccArt

@abby I think I can make that work! Thanks!
