How to write a romance between minor characters

Hi I'm writing a sideplot in a chapter about two girls who fall in love with each other, but want to avoid it either take over the chapter but I don't want to fade in the background or for to come out of nowhere

One's a rebelious, reckless delinquent with workaholic parents who hates the popular students and stands up for the weak
The other is a kind, bubbly naive cheerleader with strict parents who treats everyone kindly and wants to keeps the peace

Also they were both childhood friends and It has something to do with theme acceptance and identity

In my opinion, it doesn't really sound like these two characters would have much chemistry between them. but, as far as writing a romance for minor characters, I would say that depends a lot on the way you write your story. If it's from first person perspective, the character might not pick up on it at all. But, I think the best thing to do is to reveal the romance in kind of subtle ways, such as how they talk with each other, or their body language when the other's around, and at the end of the story or whenever they get together, have them kiss or do something else together that is obviously affectionate and shows the reader for sure that they're in love, even without a declaration of it.
