It's very different from the first tone-wise. FB1 was a fun movie with low stakes and it was more of a friendship-adventure movie. FB2 still has awesome relationships/friendships (a lot more Newt/Tina and Newt and Jacob's friendship, which is adorable!!) but has an overall darker tone (e.g. people die and change sides, more intense fighting, etc.) I personally prefer the second because it went in a direction I didn't expect but I loved the ending!!
