(Ok, I guess I will) any minute she thought to herself, waiting ever so patiently as the morning sun peaked over the trees of the park, I can't believe I'm doing this…but I can't help it any longer she could hardly contain herself, not like it would make much difference if she didn't, she was in tree form after all, and she had been…for 7 years.
Like usual Oliver was on his morning run to get his exercise before taking pictures of the rising sun behind the trees. He moved far away from his home town, but he thought the decision was good and he needed a new place to discover. The park was his favorite place to jog to with the trees in bloom ot made it even more beautiful. Slowing down he came to a stop to and admired the trees before taking a drink.
Cheland saw him, she took a deep breath, and came out of her tree form. She walked up behind the boy she'd been watching for months, "Hello." She said softly, trying her hardest not to explode from excitement.
It was early and he had thought no one was around until he heard a voice. It startled him and he spit some water out because of it. "Oh my goodness." He tried to catch his breath, his hand was on his chest and his heart was pounding. "I'm so sorry, it's just that you surprised me." He chuckled finally turning to look at the girl. Her eyes were an interesting color.
Cheland put her hands over her mouth, "Oh I M SO sorry! I didn't mean to almost make you choke! This is not the meeting I'd planned…" the anxiety flooded her mind, "My name is Cheland…I've been watching you for a while…and I donno….I..I think I was hoping we could be friends?" She said pulling up the strap on her cherry blossom covered bra…she'd been wearing the same clothes for 7 years…and..She was just so excited she didn't think about covering herself better….
"I'm Oliver." He untied the jacket that was around his waist and covered her up. Just because he was a gentleman doesn't mean all guys are. "It's dangerous to be dressed like that out here. A smile crossed his face as he looked down at her. His jacket was big on her but it made her look adorable. It was baggy and you couldn't see her arms. "Sorry, it's a bit big. Its nice to meet you Cheland."
Her eyes sparkled, "I love it!" She buried her face in it "it's so warm..is this what your house smells like?" She asked her voice slightly muffled through the coat, "and what do you mean by dangerous?? ARE THERE LUMBERJACKS AROUND??" She asked her expression changing rapidly.
Oliver covered his mouth to hide his smile and hold back his laughter. He didn't want to be rude, but she was probably the most naive and adorable human being he's every encountered. "No, no." He couldn't help it. Oliver fell to the ground laughing, he laughed so hard tears were running down his face. "Lumberjacks?" He managed to say before laughing again.
"What's so funny? Lumberjack are heartless human beans (yes bean is on purpose) that don't care about the lives of other trees, dryad husks, or dryads!" She frowned folding her arms over her chest as if she were a pouting three year old. "All lumberjack deserve a long slow death!" She nodded as if to say, I've won this argument.
All that just made him laugh harder. "Stop, I can't breathe." He felt that the laughing was giving him a better workout then the jogging. After a few more moments of laughing he finally calmed down and wiped the tears from his face and caught his breath. "I wasn't talking about lumberjacks. Just normal guys like me, not that I'm dangerous. I won't do anything to you, but that doesn't mean other guys will." Lifting up her arm he began to roll the sleeves up for her. He thought it was weird that she said she has seen him around, but he hasn't seen her. "Do you come to this park often?" He lifted her other arm and rolled that one up as well.
She blushed as he rolled up the sleeves. "Actually, I live here…" She turned around and went to the spot where her tree form had been, the spot looked like it definitely was missing something. "Right here." She said, " I've lived in this exact spot for around…7? Yeah, 7 years. Today will be the first time I've appeared human in 7 years." Her smile widened, of course she assumed he knew about dryad culture and that dryads even existed.
"I'm sorry, what?" Now he just though she was crazy, maybe it was a bad idea to talk to her. Maybe she's on some drugs? "You're telling me that, you were a tree?" He clicked his tongue and shook his head. "There's no way that's possible."
It was Cheland's turn to laugh "Oliver, you are a funny guy. But ill show you my tree form just to prove how empty this space is now that I'm not in it…" and with that, She posed and became a full and beautifully blossoming cherry tree. The space looked whole and familiar once again.
