Ok so I made a reference for one of my characters in a drawing program (FireAlpaca) and I've tried to upload it twice to her page. Every time I do though, it doesn't show up when i save it and it still takes away a bit of the storage. Any steps I'm missing or what?

It sounds like you're doing everything right, it should show up straight away after you save the page.
What file type are you using? I know .jpg, .png and .psd work, not sure about any others.
Otherwise it may be worth looking into this if you aren't already @andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)
AH! That's what i did wrong! Yeah all the files were .mpd

It's not a common type of file, the only programs I know that actually support it are MediBang Paint Pro and Firealpaca (they're very similar art programs), and a few others unrelated to art, but I don't know the names of them.
From what I know (not that much) it pretty much that it allows for layers to be saved individually (ex. sketch layer, shading layer) rather than as one image
