What music do you listen to when you write? :D

I am weird in a way I cannot possibly write without music playing. For me, it greatly depends on the kind of book, and I match my book genre to a music genre. For example, I’ll start playing some kind of Skyrim music or old folk when I write fantasy/medieval books. When I wanna write some kind of historical fiction, I normally listen to crooners :P. When I write an up-beat happy book, it’s normally classic rock.
I’m overall just a massive music geek. So, I want to know if y’all are too!
What kind of music do you guys listen to when writing?

Personally, I like to listen to Movie scores. It isn't super distracting. But I also just put my 12 hour playlist on, and listen to what I feel like :P

I love that kind of music so much! I feel like it helps me write better, be more productive, lift my spirits, and it's just amazing!!! :)

Tbh I listen to the music listed here already, and then sometimes I turn on the classical music. I always let Youtube pick the music for me, since it's easier and I never know what kind of music I'll get.

Sometimes same here. Mostly my Spotify radio. I also totally forgot Skyrim existed for the longest time until I picked up my Xbox again. Miss that game so much XD

Strangely when I'm writing this one medieval, English/nordic style character I listen to Drapht (An Aussie rapper) and that works for me. Other times I use music to think of fight scenes I use The Chats for any sort of edgy/fun fights. Doom music, Disco, Biggie smalls, Eminem, Tupac, Wu-Tang Clan, Gangsters Paradise, Blues Brothers, Joan Jett, ACDC, K.Flay for edgier characters. So a bit of everything. Except mumble rap fuck off with that shit.

Oh and if it's an ass that needs kicking, a skull that needs cracking or an idiot who needs to learn the hard way, Queen Fat Bottomed Girls. I've had badass moments irl when that song played. First time was a party this year, so this guy who was uninvited was shoving this girl I knew against a fence when she was trying to leave, I picked up a bottle of vodka, took a swig, tapped him on the shoulder and spat it in his face and then held my lighter up to his face. He left the party…

The second time was a fight and I had a sledgehammer… I had the song playing on my wireless speaker, I was using the sledgehammer when my neighbour (total asshole) decided to go off at me, I flashed the sledge hoping he would just leave… but he punched me so I broke his foot with it.

All in all, every time that song plays I feel like a badass so it helps my writing.

When writing, I listen to whatever pops up on my Youtube mix. It consists mostly of Bendy and the Ink Machine songs right now, because I've recently discovered the game.
(Watched a playthrough. They aren't half bad)

my girlfriend has a playlist she's constantly adding to that's like 14 hours long: a mix of rap, chill rock, and Latin music, which i usually put on shuffle at a low volume when i write. here's the link if anyone is interested!

As a musician, I can't listen to music while working anymore, because I always get caught up with singing along, or analyzing/criticizing the music lol

And if I wrote this song, I would've done a tritone substitution here rather than a perfect cadence to match the motif of chromatically descending basslines… but I like the obvious inspiration from disco and funk here. It works surprisingly well and the band was really locked in. 8/10 Overall bop"

I feel that. I’m not a serious musician but I play a bit— and as a big music enthusiast, I can relate

I listen to a lot of different music, depends on the vibes of what I'm writing! But generally I'll listen to chill music or I'll get really distracted. Like Cavetown, video game OSTs (especially Hollow Knight), that sort of thing.

Depends what I'm feeling, but I made a playlist of songs that I usually listen to while I write. It's usually one of these songs played on repeat until I feel like something else. I probably missed a couple but whatever.
