Writers that write under a pseudonym: Why did you start and why did you pick said name?

As for me, I started because I wanted to publish fan fiction that I knew my friends and family would absolutely tear me to shreds over. I also knew publishing that kind of content under my real name wouldn't give me much credibility as my name sounds very little girlish.

I always liked reading and writing and i always go around with a few stories in my head.

The reason I chose the name Marlee May was that my birthmonth (May) works both as a last and first name, and I always liked names beginning with M.

Depending on which Novel ever gets published really depended on my comfort level with people knowing I wrote it.

So, yeah, that's why I went with a pseudonym. Though most of my social media accounts have my pen name, a lot of my real friends already know it.

I've always loved the name Scarlet, I write so hence 'pen', and rose just seemed a bit of a dramatic flair to it.

I haven't actually written anything worth publishing, however I do have a pseudonym handy if the time ever comes. I would probably use the name Aurum Roman if I were to publish something. The name comes from a prank I played on a friend. I got his phone number without him knowing, and proceeded to text him about things that he had just done, like getting water or whatever. The word aurum is Latin for gold, and I figured Roman would be a decent last name.

i want to write under a pseudonym because my last name isn't too common and hard to pronounce correctly, but i haven't found a name that i particularly like yet (and i can't justify taking a name i used for a character, even if those characters never see the light of day lol). i've been playing around with variations of my last name and other surnames in the family tree, but nothing sounds right.

I just didn't want to be directly linked with anything for my own personal reasons. I forgot what language this was from but I tried a bunch of words and I got Jordan Mor. I'm currently trying to find what I searched.

When I was 10 I had a really crap Sonic oc (original character) called Winter the cat. Long story short, I liked the name more than I did the character.

Well, to be honest, I just use it for fun. And because if my works were to ever be published, my grandma would probably have a heart attack. As for why I chose "Namira K. Harta", it was just a mix of my favorite names. 'Namira' meaning 'princess', 'Harta' meaning 'Treasure', and K is short for Kartini, a woman I strongly admire from a young age.

My sort-of pseudonym is Constance, Constance Atticus Vivre. My real name is Kacey Marie, but whenever I publish anything its under my pen name

Ida Icarus was a recurring character I played in drama class skits, because I like the name Ida and am a sucker for alliteration + bird related mythology. As for why, it's somewhere between just for fun and feeling like my writing sucks.

I've never published anything but for anything writing-related I always use the name Alice O'Mally. Basically it's because I'm a coward and I have zero confidence in my writing so I hide behind a fake name XD

I started going by the name "Wren Stevens" online mostly because my given name, "Lauren Santistevan" wouldn't work well for writing purposes. My pen name is shortened and easier to recognize, I think. It's also my nickname, so there's that. A lot of writers choose a pen name to protect their identity, but I simply use mine because I want to, and let's be real, my family and friends know all about my manuscripts, from my constant rambling about them, so I needn't worry about that.

My pen name comes from my obsession with the stars as a little kid. Constance, for the constellations. Atticus, for the character from to kill a Mockingbird. And vivre, because the words I live by are 'Pas Peur De Vivre', which means not afraid to live in French.

For me, writing under a pseudonym helps me to get into a different mindset while I'm writing. As with most people, my life can get very hectic and it's hard sometimes to just put things aside and focus on a story without my mind drifting off to something else. I guess it's kind of like having an alter ego for when I write; a new person with nothing on her mind except the story, the characters, and the world she's creating.
