Seems cool! Would it be alright if I sent progress and stuff for a story that's starting as a fanfic? It'll be adapted into an original book; using characters I already like just makes it easier to keep myself motivated, and I'm a bit less stressed about development. Maybe sharing could keep me motivated!

I thought i was really far into my world building and then I realised I was just far into character writing and the world fell apart and now I'm back at square one :(

I feel like main issue with me and worldbuilding is that I suffer from this disease called Way-Too-Much-ism.
I love worldbuilding and I just subconsciously end up developing stuff that isn't at all important to the actual story.
Anyone else feel the same?

I mostly take one idea( elements, stars or something) and I have a verrry simple premise, and then I slowly develop it via random thoughts in the shower

See, what I do, is I start out writing a quick story, and if I like it, as well as other people, I’ll develop it. Normally, I’ll make the main character(s)’s backstory first, see what I want from them, then work my way deeper. But I never go deeper than the story needs.
For religion, if none of my main character(s) is devout or even follows a religion, I won’t plan anything outside of the basic/most common god(s)
And I’ll do that for any subject, such as politics, food, culture, geography, etc.
If none of it is a big part in my story, I won’t think too much on it.
Now, if I do have a character who’s a priest or monk, per say, then I’d figure out what religion, plan out the gods more and how they effect that person’s and other people’s lives.
Never do I 100% flush out a world, it drains all my creativity, and if I’m not going to use it in the story, why flush it out?
(Unless there’s going to be another story in that world, but that’s different)

lol i do the exact same thing! as i've said before, thats how the lizardfolk got stuck in an endless war (among other people)
