Eternia - The United Kingdoms of Videslev
ETERNIA is a fantasy world that exists in an isolated pocket dimension, away from conventional time and space. It was created by a celestial being known by the name "Kraus Eternia" as a means to escape from "Atmos," the being's turbulent home universe. He took three hundred of his most trusted companions to assist in the initial molding of Eternia. Eternia is an earth-like planet inhabited primarily by humans. It is functionally identical to Earth in every aspect, but has radically-different geographies and ecology. It also has five times the surface area of Earth, but around the same overall mass making its gravity roughly equal to Earth's. Eternia is neighbored only by its Sun, Moon and several millions of stars. There are no other planets in this universe. Eternia is many thousands of years old. The cultures of Eternia are still largely juvenile, barbaric, primitive and feudal. The oceans of Eternia are remarkably dangerous and vast, making intercontinental travel nearly impossible. As such, the cultures of Eternia have largely developed in parallel to one another, having had almost no contact throughout the ages. VIDESLEV is one of many continents that exist on Eternia, stylized in the form of medieval Scandinavia (especially Denmark). Videslev is the closest continent to the planet's northern pole, making it the coldest area of the world; the winter season encompasses all of what would be Spring and Autumn, leaving only a short few months for Summer. Videslev is divided into five different kingdoms, all ruled by the continent-wide government, a "High Monarchy" that oversees all lesser monarchies of the realm. The Kingdoms are: • The Skellive Kingdom - The largest kingdom claiming the most land of the five. Boasts the largest and best-equipped armies, and the most fertile lands of the realm. The most loyal of the five to the High Crown. • The Holy Kingdom of Sanctuary - A kingdom with a history of religious fanaticism and war. It is largely ruled by the Church of Kraus, a continent-wide religious order that organizes worship of the All-Father, Kraus Eternia. Sanctuary is known for its antiquated and conservative ideals. • The Dusklands' Kingdom - A kingdom founded by malevolent Followers of Azrael, cultists who worship the Fallen One. Their religious ideals directly conflict with Sanctuary's, resulting in a cold war that has lasted nearly a millennium. They are feared for their practice of forbidden magics and their use of monsters as tools of war. • The Kingdom of Kolding - The most recluse and militarily-inept kingdom of the five, but also the most wealthy. Kolding's few cities are among the most densely-populated in the country, and they are known for their many great universities and academic institutions. They have made a tradition of profiting immensely from the civil conflicts of the continent. • The Reach - The smallest kingdom hailing from the northern wastes beyond the Long Channel. The people of the Reach have never known a Summer in their lives. They used to rely on the raping and pillaging of the mainland for their food, but now trade peacefully in exchange for the food they cannot grow. The five kingdoms are ruled by the city-state of Asgård, a colossal city situated atop many hundreds of floating islands off the Bay of Asgård in the western coast of the continent.
