For a second his presence overwhelmed her raging consciousness, and then he touched her and everything slowed. Didn't stop. Didn't go away. Just slowed. She still felt everything, but it wasn't all at once. Everything was still there, but it wasn't railing on her to pay attention to each tiny thing. She sorted through all the excess and pushed it away, so she felt it from more of a distance.
She took a deep, shaky breath and her stomach eased it's twisting. Once all the extra stuff was pushed away, she felt Gabriel beside her, his hand on her shoulder, and everything inside him channeling into her.
Fear, confusion, self-doubt, fear, compassion, anxiety, fear, terror, hopelessness, fear.
She gasped again, this time from her own heart taking on everything she felt him consumed with. She shoved herself up and grabbed his arm, gathering up all the darkness and fear inside him and pulling it away, replacing it with a cloud of calm and peace and love and safety. She couldn't make him accept it, but she could smother him with it from all sides.
