Guinevere, however, fell asleep as soon as she flopped down face-first into the pillow. At one point, she turned her head and began snoring so loud, everyone who could hear thought the room was shaking. Her sword was still on her back, but that didn't interfere with the bounty huntress's rest because she never moved while sleeping. She splayed out like a starfish and took up as much space as she possibly could.
"Do you know her well?"
"So how did you end up here?"
Aiday shrugged. "I just thought I would be useful tonight."
"I try," she said, playing with the tips of her hair.
Stardew padded up to the two girls, clothes rumpled, although her hair was perfect. In an undertone, she said,
"What's up? I heard you whispering, and I've recently Slept. I'm craving something to do. It doesn't have to be violent," she added, glancing towards Raven.
(Where's Nevihata in the house, Mojack? Just curious.)
Stardew seemed happy to work off some off her energy.
"So, I'm an Alnaschari," she said, her strides long. "I don't know if you know what that is. Do you want me to give a brief history of Alnaschari, to make you understand why I and my friends are like this, or do you want just my own personal history and personality?"
(Noted)
(If you need this shortened just let me know, I'm sorry, there's just so much history)
"So, the brief thing is that, I don't know if you've noticed, but very few people believe in old fay anymore. Old elves, old vampires, the list goes on. And when people start not believing in them … they start disappearing. So the old fay got together, both Seelie and Unseelie Court, and decided to infuse their blood into something that would be more modern, more powerful, better. A vessel of magic that would only seek to gain fame and glory by any means according to their individual moral codes.
"They found a few old style, corpse vampires and lots of willing humans, and cross-bred, carefully creating something that would have the fewest drawbacks with the most power. The first Alnaschari realized that they didn't need to breed to create more of themselves, and now nearly everyone is carved out of wood and magicked to life in twin pairs.
"Which comes to me. Alnaschari are interesting because of the high concentration of inborn magic. The two types of magic intermix within the human frame and cause the human brain to react differently. We live for fame and glory, and would gladly die for it. I was trained, like all Alnaschari are, under a series of mentors in my maenglyn and kawr years, and I learned deduction, field medicine, sword-fighting, composition, how to play the kleos, many human languages" – here she automatically paused, as if waiting for someone to say something – "as well as the Alnaschari language, which most call 'Famished', poetry, the delicate craft of being an assassin … the list goes on. My, ahem, 'friend' Trouble and my twin brother Foxglove have similar pedigrees, even if they studied different subjects. My personality traits are: I'd blackmail for a piece of chocolate – most Alnaschari, being fay, would – I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie, I love partying … and I'm going to stop there."
Stardew stopped. She didn't seem out of breath at all. "I'm sorry, was that too long for you? There's lots of minutiae involved that I tried to skip over, but I'm kind of proud of being an Alnaschari."
Stardew grinned. "I actually have blackmailed for a piece of chocolate. What about you?"
"Interesting." said Aiday, "I have never heard of the Fae… Strange."
"Why is that?"
Aiday looked at her quizzically. "Describe her."
"Just wondered I guess…"
"I am nervous I suppose." said Aiday. "I normally don't talk as much. I feel so young… And yet I am so old."
An 8 foot tall blue humanoid scorpion with wings walking on its back claws creeps near everyone, clearly trying and failing to go unnoticed.
