"Here, I'll buy you a Guinness." He does so. And some Fish and Chips

Nyx looked apprehensively at the foaming mug of beer. "To forget?"

"About the bad memories." And he had a lot. He took a big sip, and shivered like he had goosebumps. He widen his eyes open
"Now we're sucking diesel!" He said

She frowned slightly at his reaction, then leaned forwards, tentatively taking a sip.
"Oh, that's disgusting," she muttered, leaning back.

"I dare you to drink all of it."

She made a face. "It's disgusting. And I know disgusting."

"That's the fun of it." He smirked

She looked up at him. "What do you mean?"

"It's not for the flavour. It's to forget."

She stared at the golden liquid. How could something that looked so good taste so awful?
And then, with a mutter of, "Oh, what the heck," she picked it up and chugged about 2/3 of it before she needed to breathe. It was incredibly impressive, really. Sputtering and gasping, she set the mug down, grabbed a napkin, and wiped her mouth.
The bartender looked at her admiringly. "Now that's the Irish way!"

"Damn!!" Vozreal was shocked.

She waited until the barkeeper had moved off, and then murmured, "I was forced to drink worse growing up. You learn to ignore the taste of whatever they're feeding you."

"Same. To be honest, I don't even taste other beers… Guinness is the only thing that gets to me, ya know?"

"No, I don't know," she said. "But it's better than being forced to drink pure testosterone."

"Wait, for real?" He asked, shocked

She nodded. "Or something like that. They wanted to see… if my venom would get stronger? Or something? It tasted horrible, I was sick for days."

"So… You're intersex, so to speak?"

(When you make the realization, but your character hasn't.)

"What's that?"

"It means that you have primary and secondary characteristics of both sexes. I say sexes and not genders, because the two are different."

"I… I mean, I have testosterone… in me… I don't know how to explain it. Male platypi are the only ones who can produce venom, so to make me produce venom, they had to give me… male… genes or something like that? I don't really understand it." She shook her head. "I mean, but you can see it, I've got no curves."

"You… Literally just described intersex." He said

"Oh." She fiddled with her bracelets absentmindedly. "And you saw my tail, right? What I have left of it."

"Yeah…" He said

She leaned her forehead against his arm, and the food arrived.

He ate some of the chips, which are just fries.

Nyx tentatively tried it. It was very good. She promptly ate the fish, finishing the rest of her beer as she did so.
The bartender wandered over again. "Do you want a refill?" he said in his thick Irish accent.
Nyx looked up at Vozreal, hoping for a translation.

"He asked if you wanted more." He translated

"Oh… um… I think that's all for now," she said. "Do you have ginger ale?"
"Yes, we do, would you like some?"
She still didn't understand him, but from what she could see of his smile (which was hidden under a thick beard and moustache), and from the tone of his voice, she took it to mean a yes.
"Yeah, that would be great." She started on her chips, and the bartender moved away. "How's your food, Vozzie?"

"Very good! Better than American food, anyways."
