I need some character art!

@ninja_violinist that's fine, I mostly have some general questions.

1. do you use photoshop or another program to draw?
2. What sort of brush do you use for the lines or how do you make the line art if not photoshop?
3. How do you make the shadows?
4. How do you draw lips with and without make-up??? I always fail at those.

1) I use Krita - it's a free, high-quality open source art software because I'm too broke for photoshop.
2) On krita, I use some of the basic brush sets (Ink-3_Gpen) as well custom brush sets from the krita community. Idk I actually kind of just go around and use whatever brush I feel like, tbh
3) Shading is such a huge topic - generally I attempt to stick to a single light source, which I try to determine beforehand (often by adding a gradient in the background just to stay clear throughout the whole thing). Biggest source of error is making shadows just blacker than the base colour. If the light source is warm, shadows are cold and vice versa - so if the light source is natural light (warm), then shadows go bluer and darker on the color wheel and highlights go warmer/lighter. I hope that helps?

I usually steer very clear of lips, but I'm trying to challenge myself so I figured I'd attempt them on these characters?
yeah I have absolutely no idea… so if you do find out somewhere else, do you think you could tell me?

I LOVE it so much oml, seeing this character in art is amazing, but do you think that you could add a bit more Victorian goth to her style, and have it all be black? She is a death eater and most of the time wears a cloak, is that too much to ask for? I'm VERY impressed by your skills with the tattoos well done 👏👏👏 lol

My main issue with making her all black was that there wasn't really a lot of contrast with the hair. So I didn't want to make her just a black smudge in the landscape if you know what I mean, but I'll look into it and see what I can do!
When you say death eater cloak, my immediate thought is floor length graduation gown which would obviously cover any of her other clothing. Do you think you could specify her outfit a bit, or even give me a place to find references?

Yeah, I only have photoshop because it's essential to my study and I have friends who found a good 'free' version for me. I'll check out Krita then. if it's a bit similar I should be able to do it.

that's luckily sort of similar to what I do with the cold shadow and stuff, probably just need some more practice then.

Yeah of course! I added another photo to her character gallery if that helps, also do you think you could have her holding a mask? I added a photo of that too if you think you can do it, and if you can't that's completely okay, as for the photo it doesnt show her lower half, but I feel like she wears black pants with the cloak tied around her waist and just falling to the side, it can be a dark grey too to be able to tell that it's a different price of clothing, and she most likely wears knee high combat boots with heels, I hope that isn't too much…

And as for the sleeves of her shirt, the length there are at right know is perfect

@alrightellie Hi! I'm generally up for drawing characters but in your case I'd recommend developing Satomi further before I draw her. I noticed that she doesn't have any physical descriptions or personality laid out on her page yet - I hope you understand why that would make her difficult to draw =)

Hey y'all I'm flattered by your interest! But I'm pretty busy and I have a hard time keeping track of character requests, especially if they get lost in various threads. It's also kind of weird if poor @"Court.At.Hogwarts" gets a notification every time someone asks me to draw a character…
If you're interested I recommend sending me a PM so I can keep track of stuff and I'll see when I get to it. I wouldn't expect anything before Easter though, I hope you understand =)

If you still have the orignal art piece you sent me, I think that you could just add a light cloak on her and just black boots, with heels, but if you don't mind me asking could you send me what you've done so far? I just want to see if what you have might work for me to help you out, don't stress about it either if it's too difficult it's not a big deal we can change a few things and take out some details if it's too much.

here's what I've got so far

LOL I love all the added 'um wat? help?" stuff that made my day but um honestly I think what you have is honestly really good and I didn't even realize that it is kinda like a Rey outfit, the hair that you have sketched out looks good along with the clothing, but I feel like she wears tight pants and not poof pants, and you don't need to do the mask I was just throwing ideas out there since I saw that you did a really good job on the tattoo. The main sketch you have is REALLY good and I feel like it looks perfect, I hope this isn't too hard or confusing…

Yea I honestly love it the way it looks! The only things that I feel like needs to be changed is the poof pants, sees more of a tight pants kinda gal lol

well I don't think I've ever shaded this many different variations of black in one picture
looking at it now I realise the eyebrows are… extreme
but I hope you like it anyway!
