Dear Geneviera,

So this Santa Clause man…is he a god? Or just an idol? I'm sorry, I still can't quite get my head around this idea. And you say he's rumored to do these things, so is he a real figure or just a story?

Also, I must tell you that time passes quite differently in your universe, as I am now finding out. It's been about two days since I received your letter about you kissing Star. Meaning that yes, I now know where we are headed: a planet called Lara, about another 16 Earth hours away.

The whole Lybra thing is still developing. I'm trying to talk to him more, since he saved my life a while ago. (That's a whole other story for another time). I'm not terribly lonely on this ship, even with only four other people. We're…friends. Which is strange. I've never really had a friend before, aside from Lybra. Before and after him, I was alone.

And I never learned the word for my favorite color, but it's the one like blue but lighter. Like if blue and red had a child. And my question for you is if you would ever get a pet again and what it would be?

Se'dil te Ixe,
Ali Samul

@EtherealDreamer

Dear Ali,

The whole Santa Claus thing depends on who you ask I guess, some might say he was real while most elder people on Earth would claim its just a silly story made up to get them to go to sleep faster.

I hope Lara is an interesting planet it would seem quite interesting if you had traveled all that way to explore a planet that was a bore and cynical, as for the Lybra thing, let me know all the detail if anything interesting happens.

Also the color you are looking for is purple, the color made from the mis of red and blue.
I think if I were to get another pet, it would be a parakeet, and one of the orange,yellow and green ones, colored as if they are fruit.

have you ever been in love? What were your parents likes, or rather; your family?

Se'dil te Ixe to you too

@sheabutter group

Dear Geneviera,

Lara is okay so far. It's mostly just forests, but then again, we're not here to look at scenery. And if I'm remembering what a parakeet looks like, it's similar to the koffa birds of my home planet.

As for your questions, I've never truly been in love before. There was a boy back on Tallesia that I liked as a child, but that was all it was. His name was Jeo and he was the son of one of my father's friends. Nothing ever really happened, that's all we were. It wasn't any sort of true love, kā'ne te'deva, just a crush.

And my family…they were some of the best people I ever knew. My parents were kind to me and my brother, sometimes a little too forgiving, like the time when my brother, Ten, dared me to climb up to the klatsiki nest and I nearly got killed. He wasn't even punished for it. We used to go to the Rain Festival celebrations at the center of our little village and my parents would dance together and you could tell that they loved each other more than anything else on our little planet. They taught us, my brother and I, how to dance as well, but Ten was always too clumsy to really get the steps down. I miss them a lot. I'm not sure where they are now or if my brother even remembers me. I remember him, though, and I'd confront a thousand more klatsiki to see him again.

So now I will return the questions to you. What was your family like? Do you know where they are?

Se'dil te Ixe,
Ali Samul

@EtherealDreamer

Dearest Ali,

I think our parents were vaguely the same, they taught me basic life skills, minus the addition of having to teach another, as I was the only child, it was also clear that my parents were in love with each other, and grew in more everyday. I honestly have no clue where they are, I got news in our old village awhile ago that they moved, but toher people in the village also claimed that they had died.

Will you ever marry? How do you feel about the same gender being in a relationship? Does any specific thing make you angry, or irritated?

Sorry for such a short letter, I am most tired and am quite hallucinate at this point

Sincerely, Geneviera

so sorry, i thought i posted this nearly a week ago. welp, here it is, i guess

Dear Ash-
Bienvenue le jour! That is a saying Knox (my stepbrother) taught me. It means "welcome life". It can mean the same as "carpe diem," which he also taught me. Be-AYN-ve-noo LE JOOR. That is the pronunciation.
I have just realized, mon ami, that I have not asked your pronouns. I am sorry. I have been thinking of you as a he, but forgive me if you prefer another pronoun. I go by it/they.
I do have many questions about the SBS Raven. How large is it? I have heard of canoes, but from your tales, the Raven must be much grander than a canoe. Are there different types of sea vessels? Are they common? What is a quartermaster? I know what a quarter is, but why must one master it? He could be a math teacher if he likes fractions that much! Ack, pardon me- They, they. THEY could be a math teacher if they like quarters and fractions that much. Or is it the money quarter? Are they rich, then? Your life sounds at once amazing and confusing. What is the word for that? Crateric? Chaotic? I think that is the word, oui.
The saying Gh'real nie despoto is pronounced GUH-reel NEE DAY-spoe-toe. I find your saying wonderful. It is not wishing one idea upon the receiver- it could be wishing eternity, or luck, or happiness. A beautiful kind of abstract.
You must be at least two centuries to go to the Above. This is to ensure that we are A) settled on what age we will appear, B) have had time to learn Mortal and C) will actually appreciate the trip. Pah! It was wasted on all but the Eldest and my uncle, Ashvin. He brought me a potato. It was delicious! We had it baked, and then we cut it open and it spit steam at us! It has weapons even in death! It is truly fascinating. We lathered a creamy substance on it to smother the steam and sprinkled what is known as chees (cheez? chees? cheeze?) on top and- oh! It was heavenly. I do hope you can find one.
I have shown these letters to aunt Echo. She said to ask if you are okay having these letters put in a museum when our correspondence is over. Apparently, this is like a first or something.
What is a day in your life like? I sit quite different, living on water? Have you ever known life on land? What happens if you fall overboard? Is it mandatory to know how to swim? If you're training to be a navigator, how do you train?
Thank you for the picture. The sky- what are the lights in it? Are they buildings or ships that are above the Above? And how are there so many?
I have enclosed a drawing of the Gates Below. Those are teh gates that lead to my world. The one below yours. It is strange to think that the people and things above are not nearly so strange. Is it like that for you, too?

Dear Geneviera,

Please get some sleep. From the weird phrasing of your letter, I can't even begin to guess how long you've gone without it. I'm not sure if I will ever marry, especially considering the fact that Tallesians don't have a concept of marriage. If you love each other, you love each other. There's no need to make an extra promise to hold you to that. Which is also why I don't feel as strange as many Earthens do about loving the same "gender". Our concept of gender is a little more fluid than the Earthen, so it's not even loving the same gender. What makes me angry is things that take forever to be repaired or uploaded. They're so small but it irritates me to no end.

And yet again, I'll return your questions to you and ask the same ones. I know Earthens are little more rigid about gender and all of that. Hope you sleep well.

Se'dil te Ixe (or Cheerio!)
Ali Samul

@EtherealDreamer

Dearest Ali,

I again have slept for a little bit, I have these spasms of sickness, where I can be fine and dandy one day and for that week then, out of nowhere I'll feel absolutely terrible. It happens quite often and its been happening ever since I was a child.

Gender doesn't really matter to me either, seeing as humans have more concept and strict rules of gender, I love breaking rules, so I break those as well. Seeing as i'm currently interested in a woman, who is the same gender as I, I think its obvious I don't care at all. One thing that aggravates me is when people automatically assume they know someone just for being around them for a brief time.

Do you want pets? Would you like a partner? What are things you like to do in your free time?

Sincerely, Geneviera

group
@sheabutter group

Dear Geneviera,

I apologize for my late reply. There was a…complication on Lara that kept me from going anywhere for a couple days. We're all okay now, thank Ixe, and we're back on our ship, the Bailey, to get us as far from the planet as possible.

For pets, since you described dogs to me, I think having one for a pet would be fun. And doing things in my free time is pretty much nonexistent, although I also like to climb. But seeing as that's also off-limits for the foreseeable future, I've taken to just making fun of Lybra and being a dick to everyone.

May I ask what your sicknesses look like? Perhaps I could describe them to Elidi and see if she knows what they are. I don't really have any other questions, so anything else you'd like to tell me about? I'd love to hear them.

Se'dil te Ixe,
Ali Samul

@EtherealDreamer

Dearest Ali,

my sickness comes in waves, though the amount of time for each wave is not defined or solid. I have been told that I look sickly and tired when I go out during my sickness, but my mind is not really there, its like im a stranger in my own body. I can only assume I look terrible. Though my sickness is more of an mental sickness I usually feel fatigued and tired.

I want another dog as well.
What do the others on the Bailey think of you adapting assholish behaviours? Do they like it? Do they not mind? Anything happening with Lybra?

sincerely, Geneviera

group
@sheabutter group

Dear Geneviera,

I described your sickness to Elidi and she said it sounded like a bad case of stress sickness, although she can't be sure. In any case, I'm sorry you feel that way at times. I hope this wave passes quickly.

The Bailey crew must be fairly used to my dickish behavior at this point. I can be really awful if I want to be, although it doesn't happen often and they typically see it directed at Lybra. Who, by the way, seems to be taking my injury more seriously than even myself. I know I scared the shit out of him, but his hovering is starting to get on my nerves. I can't even walk across the bridge without him watching me closely.

Anyways, I have more questions. How do fairies gain their powers? Are they from birth or do they develop as the child grows? How is it with you and Star?

*Se'dil te Ixe,"
Ali Samul

@EtherealDreamer

Dearest Ali,

tell Lybra to calm his tits a expression we use here on Earth to signify someone needs to calm down in more ways than one. Honestly fairies are mostly born with their powers and wings.

Star and I are still at the just kissed level, I haven't seen her since to do much else but thats okay I guess.

how old are you in human years? Do you want to have a family someday? Would you make a move on Lybra if you were bored enough too?

Sincerely, Geneviera

group
@sheabutter group

Dear Geneviera,
Lybra does need to chill out, but I guess I understand where he's coming from. If I had been there when he lost his arm, I would never have left him alone again. He's lucky, in that aspect.

In human years, I'm 19. I think. I kind of lost track after a while, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere around 19 or 20, and I have no idea how old I am in Tallesian years. A family is pretty much out of the question. I especially don't trust myself with little kids, I get worried I might say something or do something that scares them.

Are you religious in any way? What does Earthen music sound like?

Se'dil te Ixe,
Ali Samul

@EtherealDreamer

Dearest Ali,

honestly I don't think I want a family either, its not that I don't trust myself with children, quite the opposite actually. Its just now that im not with anyone anymore it seems more of like a burden, in a third person view. I just always remember wanting a family when I was younger, but not so much now.

I am not religious unless you count following some fairy related holidays when I lived with my family religious, other than that I have never even thought about religion. Earthen music is just— music it sounds may different ways honestly, due to there being different genres.

Are you religious? What does music sound like on the planets you've been too?

sincerely, Geneviera

Dear Corrin

I definitely don't know that much french, I know how to introduce myself, my fleet and my ship. That's all I really need to know.
It is okay, I also did not ask for yours. Mine are he/him and they/them, if that is how it works.
The SBS Raven is very large! Large enough for about a 1000 crew and passengers. Canoes are much smaller, depending on the maker they can carry usually 2 to 8 people. There are different kinds of sea vessels! Some can be small enough to be manned by 100 people or less, they are usually single or double masted, the biggest ship in the fleet is the SBS Falcon, it can hold over 1500 crew and passengers. Triple or double masted ships are the most common.
A quartermaster is the person who is in charge of steering and signals on the ship, but our quartermaster also likes to help teach and look after younger crew members. So I guess in a way he is a maths teacher. Huh. Fascinating.
Yes, it is very chaotic, but very enjoyable.
Ah! Said how it's spelt. It is a very pretty phrase. Yes, a beautiful mistake of a saying.
Two centuries! That is a ridiculous idea! Most crew members and passengers won't live above 80. Heck, I probably won't live any longer than 60. I'm not the healthiest to be completely honest. How long do you live for?
You have also gotten a potato! I have also baked mine. I shared it with the cabin boys. They all very much enjoyed how it steamed. I did not have any cheese to put in my potato, cheese is a bit of a delicacy. Creamy substance is butter, correct? I had butter and I used the pulled pork that was for dinner to put in it and broke it up for the boys. They were begging the first mate for more. I guess they will be buying them for meals.
Oh absolutely! That feels like an honour.
A day in the life of me? Well, I get up early to see if there is any help I can do around the ship. Then I head to meet my mentor, the head navigator. He teaches me about maps and stars so I can know how to navigate the oceans. It is odd going onto the land because it doesn't sway. I can only imagine how it would feel the other way around. The longest time I have been on land is a week while the SBS Raven was being repaired. No one has fallen off for a while but when they do, they call 'man overboard!' and climb down the ladders on the side of the ship and either grab the person or throw them a rope. Most people can swim actually, we often climb down to swim in the sea when stopped. Can you swim? Do you have anywhere to swim? What is a day in your life like? Do you have a job?
The lights in the sky are the stars. They are suns far off in the distance. The make up patterns called constellations. There are so many because they are all so far away and some are closer.
There really are gates between worlds like that? That's fascinating. It is strange to think that we aren't so different. I always thought that otherworldly beings would be so strange and unlike me. I guess our biggest difference is I live on the ocean and you on land. And the age difference.

Forever and Fortune,
Ash Connor,
Navigator-in-training,
SBS Raven

Dear Ash,

How many languages do you know? If you have to stop at many places for supplies, I suppose you would need to know one of the languages spoken. I find it funny that there are so many different languages for a single species. We have languages for each species, more or less, and that's about it. Most people or creatures know at least some English or Spanish or something, to be able to at least somewhat communicate with the spirits of dead humans.
Is it weird for you, to think that down here are dead people? People you might have known? What is death like in the Above, if you think that it's final? I say think because if the soul passes the three Trials, it can be reincarnated and come back, though it wouldn't be recognized. So in some way it is final, but it also isn't.
Mon dieu! I didn't think it was that big! Are all the SBS ships named after birds? And is the ship actually blessed by the gods? How does that work? Did they actively help build it, or did they just pow and there's a ship? What is a mast? Are ships with more masts superior to those with less? Do masts determine the importance of a ship? Do canoes have masts?
Steering and signals, you say? What kind of signals? Signals to other ships, or to the crew and passengers? What are the signals used for?
It is quite ridiculous, yes. Something that happened during Elder N'marras' time prompted that rule, and though you can't find many details about it - something about letting loose a Nightmarish and a couple horrible diseases - I know that none alive or existing now would do such a thing. In fact, I'm friends with a Nightmarish. They are, to put it simply, made of the nightmares and fears of humans. But the ones I know are very nice.
Oui, the creamy substance was called butter. Cheese is a delicacy? Are there not an abundance of cows in the Above? Do cows not produce the stuff that makes cheese every day? You could take one with you, could you not? Can cows not swim?
I cannot swim. We have creeks and a river - a long one, winding through the whole of the Unterworld - that we are not allowed to swim in because that is where the banshees - pretty much the security and police of the Unterworld - live. Over time, the river has become somewhat sacred. It is simply called the River, because there are no other rivers to confuse it with.
A day in my life varies, actually. It depends on the time of year. On most days, except for the solstices and equinoxes, I get to keep some of the horizon in place. We have a constant illusion of the horizon, and if you try to run you will be swallowed by the illusion of the horizon. There are "holes", parts of the illusion that never stay, so lucky me, I get to hold up the illusions for most of the day.
It's more fun than it sounds. The horizon is generally a vaguely gray-and-black landscape, but when I'm bored I make it neon green or have frogs or something of the sort. Or I mirror the sky in the horizon, making it look like the land has sunk into itself.
Huh. How do the stars hang in the sky like that? Why do they not float away, or fall to earth?
There are. I know of three.

Apologies for the long letter, and g'hreal nie despoto,

(This idea sounds very interesting! May I join? I do have a fairly well developed universe that I like to call Sciamachy, it's hard to describe but basically an absurdist, fantasy, no-specific-timeline-but-resemblant-to-Earth's-1700s-until-mid-1950s-depending-on-the-location-not-medieval-tho, and a quite… complicated… social structure. Not so special but, yeah, that's it. No, this was not the letter explaining the universe, it was just a dumb little quick summary for you to ponder about wether or not I should join. Anyway-)
