i mean, as long as the story isn't exactly about him and hes more of like an extra or a side character, than i don't think it would be considered fan fic. But if hes the main character, than yeah, thats fanfic.

He's not the main character, he's like a background character

Make sure it's okay with them first? I'd recommend that you just make a character similar to him as opposed to him, otherwise it's gimmicky and also weird.

No harm meant, Potato, but when we did that rp thing, I got kind of tired because you were just throwing in Jacksepticeye and Markiplier and Gravity Falls stuff left and right. I'm a fan of Sean and Mark, and Alex Hirsch, but it was just tiresome to have it rubbed so deeply into everything. Like, when Jack was having a single beer with Azrael and you used that as a way to explain how becoming immortal works, that was cool, like, "Oh, I know who he is! Cool crossover between your story and real life!" But when Bill Cipher and Sean and Mark showed up, I was just like… I don't remember this being a fan roleplay.
Sorry, I just needed to be honest

Yeah, i was just making up stuff as i went along, and that was the first thing to pop up in my head. My bad.
I feel like with that kinda stuff, you really should only mention they exist. There are laws, as you know, about knowingly writing real people into fiction. But as an example, Brandon Sanderson's Alcatraz and the Evil Librarians series, he references Harry Potter and J.K Rowling, among other culture figures. but i's in passing, very quickly. Like "Hey, do you know who was the game director for Doom Eternal?"
"Ah, yeah, that's Hugo Martin."
"Right, right."
Or
"I was watching one of Jacksepticeye's video's last night, have you seen it yet?"
That kind of stuff is largely acceptable, if your story's set into that world, but to have them actually be characters means that you're now writing a real person, as if you know what they'll do and say, as if they were your character, even if they're just background characters. That's my understanding, anyway. I agree with Jyn on this one

Yeah, it's one thing for a character to wear a Gravity Falls shirt or mention having a crush on some famous actor, but when it crosses into a famous person actually appearing, or an existing fandom being a massive part of the story, it's too much. Make a fake YouTuber or fandom instead, it's really not that difficult.

Thanks everybody!
